Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Headliner looks good! Where did you get the fabric? I've got to do mine also...

JoAnn Fabric- I got 2 2/3 yards at $14.99 a yard and they were doing a 40% off sale this weekend.

I started with 2 cans of 3M Headliner Adhesive that I got at Wal-Mart that sucked. It pulled right up. I went to Home Depot and got 3M Super 77 to redo it all.

I'm keeping my eye on it, because I am a little concerned that it didn't take on the contour over the passenger door grab handle.

I use these guys a lot. Good product and good prices, fast shipping. Oh, Super 77 isn't much better for headliners. That's apparently not its intended application. The last two I did with 77 started releasing after about 6 months. Your results may be better, but I now use the stuff from the store linked below and have yet to have any more issues.

I've had 77 holding headliner up for 4 years without sags. I used fabric without the foam backing.

Maybe that's the difference, I suppose. I've read that it's not meant for the foam backed stuff.

EDIT: just found that info and it says 3M Super 90 is specifically meant for the foam backed headliner materials.

I bought mine from a seller on Ebay.

It's been a while but I think it was this place.

I think you should show me how this is done with my 98..... Could it be knocked out in a Saturday? As in I show up with Jeep in the am we pull the headliner recover it and reinstall it all in the same day? Never pulled a late model one with that sound bar so IDK what all is involved. Maybe even get LG to come help so he can learn.

If you have everything ready to go, you can strip it, repair the headliner, and replace it and the trim in a couple hours tops if you don't spend a lot of time goofing off.

The most time consuming is getting the trip pieces out of the way and reinstalling - and figuring out what size torx heads you need from time to time (torx on seatbelts and speakers), Philips head for everything else.

Make sure you have a good wire brush to get all the old foam off. I used a wire wheel in a power drill. Take your time and read the instructions on the adhesive. Some require longer than others to get tacky enough to attach.

The hardest part about the soundbar is keeping wrinkles off of the rear corners. The contours are kind of weird. I started laying mine in the front with the flat parts and ended with the soundbar section. You may want to "divide" the headliner into thirds or quarters and do a small section at a time.

Not rushing things is the key I learned.

Removing the darned thing is by far the most tedious task. I used a stiff bristle boat deck brush to remove the old foam.

Edit: the longest part for me was searching for just the right fabric because I chose not to use foam backing again. I probably spent an hour in the fabric store comparing looks with finding just the right weight/material fabric so that it wouldn't sag under weight but also heavy enough that the glue didn't bleed through.

Finally got the Jeep out of the garage after parking it in early August.

I did a fender trim on the fronts, did a cut and fold on the rear, installed the JCR rear quarter guards and did their LED taillight upgrade. I had the quarter guards powder coated gunmetal grey. I thought about trying to color match, but if I was a shade off, it would have looked like a mistake. This way the grey is intentional, but not super dark. I didn't want to go with black. I did get a spray can of the Mopar Silverstone Metallic paint from Quadratec for all the necessary touch ups.

I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out. I do need to do some bumper modification because that is just a rock magnet now - but that is to come down the road some.

Now to the pictures!

Friday: Cheap Trick at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach
Saturday: Octoberfest @ Market Commons in Myrtle Beach
British Car club show. Atlas Ale House for Beers in lieu of food for lunch, Diner @ Molly Darcy's then a walk on the beach with my girl. \
Sunday: Walk on the Boardwalk and one of the piers at Myrtle Beach. More Beers @ Atlas Ale house then home. What a great mini vacation and adventure with my girl......

Unless it sells, I am going to pick up a 2010 Rubicon tomorrow. Should go nicely with the '67 CJ6 and '98 XJ I think.

Replaced my muffler and tailpipe with some Napa junk parts ha ha :chef::us:

Took the ZJ to the mountains to camp with the family. I must say it did MUCH better than the XJ climbing up Black Mountain on I40. Also saw a Unimog for the first time in my life, and now I want one.
