Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Wow, that's some detail. I used to do models when I was a kid but I'd put em together in about an hour. and that included painting them... lol So, you can assume what kind of craftsmanship I showed. lol

It usuallytakes me a month or two of spare time to finish one.... And my detail isn't perfect but its way better than when I was 8

lol havent put together a model since 1994/95. and i would airbrush what i could & brush paint the rest of the details in (dash & all!) even went so far as adding the hoses & wires under the hood. one of the dodge vipers i did only took me one night (stoked out on coffee & mt. dew, lmao) couldn't sleep, go figure!
but when i joined the Army i lost everyone one of them :(

Unfortunately they didn't get me a car to drive for this trip..i've been riding bitch to and from work every day with another co-worker who trained me a bit in the US and lives in the town i'm staying in. It'd be cool if they did...been riding around in a 6-speed turbo diesel Volvo wagon that'll give any average car in the US a serious run for it's money in terms of performance! It's not so much that the driving style is insane overall, it's just initially insane in comparison to how we drive. Now that i'm adjusted to it, it doesn't seem so bad. Coming home in a couple of days and driving in Charlotte traffic again is going to suck. Look for the green XJ weaving in an out of traffic unintentionally :D

My #1 goal in life now..get an Italian girlfriend. Holy crap!

Afternoon nap? How does that work? The only afternoon nap I get is when I crash down off of my Italian Expresso high. I'm starting to wonder if i'll be able to drink American coffee again after this week!

Figures I just started getting fully adjusted to the time change...just in time to get back on the plane Sunday and get all screwed up again.

Sounds like you just need to move to Italy...

On a lighter note, I paid my credit card off! Boy, did that hurt. I promise that bitch is gone forever and I'll never have another one! Why do people (Me) fall for those stupid things!?

i havent had a CC in over 5 years.. only sucks if you try to rent a car.

While Italy is very beautiful, I don't think I can live here. Just like things in the US better.

Just got a credit card last week actually to use for traveling. Never had one until now..and I keep forgetting I have it!

today i got my Class A CDL permit, and started learning how to drive tractor-trailers. i should have the full blown license in the next 2 weeks or so. i guess i'll have a real job in a couple of weeks...

GL! And congrats! A lot of companies that will pay decent cannot hire you till you get some OTR experience. Unless you are loking to go with one of the big companies, which does not have the insurance problems, but they run you to death and pay you poorly. Our drivers have to have 2 years OTR experience in the type of trailer they will be hauliing. We have both refers and flats. Just my experience from being associated with the trucking industry most of my life.

finished another model today..... MiG 15 kit that sam got me for christmas, im pretty happy with the result, time to figure out whats next....

Congrats! Credit cards are something I refuse to use. I aim to kill my student debt in 5 years or so, after that I will be debt free.

People ask me why I don't have a credit card... say my credit score must be terrible without it... credit scores are only useful if you want to get in debt economically and I don't want to get in debt at all.

Patience is the key I only do a couple steps.at a time and sometime don't even glue parts, just paint. I really wish I had ed's skill tho he's a kit basher, he uses parts from different kits and makes models that don't have kits

You all are gonna make me start building models again! I have a whole closet full of Jeeps, Dodge trucks/power wagons, Chevy Trucks/blazers and a Ford truck/Bronco or 2.

I like to kit bash as well but mostly just to add lifts, different axle's or accessories. I don't do too much of the slicing and shaving of the bodies.

I wish they would make a XJ model, I have the GC model but its not the same.

On another note, my trail rig passed the VA state inspection again today so I'm good for another year. I had a cop follow me for a few miles today looking for something but he gave up and turned off. I guess my slow/methodical driving bored him too much.

I built a little yellow YJ kit as a kid... came out terribly. Did a black Corvette that came out pretty decently.

My favorite model I've ever built yet though (star wars fans will recognize this one):

Digging WAY into my past on that one, haven't used that screenname in like 5 years now and the terribad web dev work is from like '04.

I have tons of model kits all all kinds of Jeeps. Like Jon, I sure wish they built an XJ but they never have.

I love building models and almost enjoy researching them more. I went to Vancouver Island in 2006 and took 2000 pictures of the big off hwy loggers. My goal is to build masters for the Pacific, Challenger, Hayes, and Mack cabs so I can have them cast in resin so I can build many versions of each truck. What I lack is the cabs as I have the resin tires, axles, engines, etc already. All custom built, non kit stuff.

I am such a slow builder. My last IH Paystar 5000 logger I built took me 3 years. It turned out really well.

Nice. My Nephew just got accepted to a college in your town.

That is always entertaining. There is a cop around here that did that about 3 times during the summer because I had my doors off. At that point I wish he would have pulled me over, so we could sit down and have a nice conversation with his superior (a fishing buddy of mine), about his actions.

just remember, only doors that are removable from the factory are allowed to be run without.

Your doors are removable from the factory it just takes a bit more work than some others :anon:

There is nothing in NC prohibiting it, as long as you have 2/3 mirrors. I was a state inspector several years back.

In other news, the XJ is headed into the garage tonight. Hopefully it can fit back out when all is said and done :).

wow!! can i drive those with a class A? that looks killer!

They say you need to be a master of a class A truck before even attempting to drive one. Most are automtic transmissions but have a jake brake, trans retarder plus conventional brakes. Then they have a water tank they use to keep them cool as they come down the mountain. The mountains are steep, roads are narrow, and there are plenty of switchbacks that make it fun.

I rode in a Hayes HDX-1000 #H17, the last Hayes truck built in 1975. It was an awesome experience.
