I finally got started on my gear set-up. It sure is a pita to do with the housing still under the Jeep. Ugh. It took me 3 hours just to find a decent pinion pre-load since I had no starting shims to go by... Ended up with .030 pinion depth shim stack and .045 preload shim stack... for 20 in/lbs of preload... That should work to start with.

Enjoying a night or two this weekend to do something fun for a change. Pay day combined with what looks to be a momentary break in the hectic life style means it's time to go out.

Dropped off my keys to my old craphole of an apartment this evening and did a walk through (after they tried to get me to wave my right to be there when I tried yesterday). Now comes the fun battle of disputing the charges for damages caused by my idiot roommates. I made it clear that i'm not paying...guess we'll see how well they listened.

man, i moved out of a crummy apartment, and gave them my new address to send the check for my security deposit back, and instead they sent me a bill for $500! needless to say, i the apartment was actually in better shape when i left than when i got there, so i didn't pay anything. so far it hasn't hurt my credit, and i haven't heard anything else from them at all. the only thing they charged me for that i thought was even partially fair was that they wanted to charge me to pressure wash the spot where i'd been parking my xj for the past 2 years(yummy oil spot), but they wanted $200 bucks just for that!:gonnablow they got nothing.

Yeah....technically if I really wanted to be a dick about it, I could get one of my roommates on breaking and entering this week. Moved all my crap out last Sunday, locked my bedroom door (4 people in this apartment, we all had separate leases too) and get a text last night "where'd you move to?" (indicating they broke into my room to see that all my stuff was gone). That text was followed with "Why didn't you take the trash out?" The reason I didn't was because it wasn't my trash, and i'm neither his mother or his butler. He's a grown man, he can clean up after himself. I finally quit cleaning the place top to bottom every weekend after they trashed it about 5 months ago....and they didn't like it. Did my own personal walk through right before the one with the office to find the bag of trash thrown in my room.

Could have texted him back and been a dick, but as usual was the mature one and ended the problem. Just glad to no longer have to deal with them. I'm sure i'll get a random phone call wanting me to work on his TJ when it breaks down again. "Yeah sure i'll work on it. Labor rate for you is $100/hour. Oh can't get it to me? Well then add an additional $80 for a service call fee. Don't like it? Pay to have a wrecker tow it to a shop, and then pay the exact same labor rate. Don't like that option either? Learn how to work on your damn Jeep then since you wanted it lifted with 33's."

Found and pulled a D3O with factory 4.10 gears at the Nashville Pull-a-part.

It came out of a 1986 XJ. I hope I made a good buy. I am hearing that it may have CV joints (not sure...need to research that) and that is it a disconnect axle (yep I am sure it is) and that is is a High Pinion axle (ok, I'll accept that). I don't know much about it, but decided it was worth taking a chance on with the 4.10 gears.

Need to get some photos up when I get it out of the Jeep and cleaned up a bit.

By the way...anyone going to be in Brentwood/Franklin tomorrow and want to help me off load an axle??? :dunno:

I've got a thread on it over in OEM Tech...looking for input as to if this was a wise or poor buy.

it may very well have cv joints, but i doubt it, you may need to change the pinion yoke if it had a cv joint on that end of the driveshaft, but that's no biggie. in the FAQ section, they give you the part number for the seal you need for the housing, and you can use the pinion yoke and axle shafts from your current axle to make it tippy top! also, use your brakes and unit bearings! you have everything you need between your current axle and that one to have a nice setup...:yelclap:

Went and repaired flood damage on a floor we installed exactly 2 months ago in Darlington SC. They were so narrow minded they didn't even recognize it was water causing the damage in the first place. The best part, they haven't even bothered correcting their drainage issue. We drove through rain an hour later! If we go "bail" em out again, they will have paid more than the original installation for the 2 trips.

More money for you!

I thought about it, I actually came closer than that because we drove up 151 to see another job in Richburg, but I was on boss-mans time, and boss-man don't stop for nuthin!

(Newbie joining the thred!)

Since Nick couldn't be in town to help me with my lift install, I went to LKQ. Last weekend when I was there getting stuff for the car, I saw a lifted '80s XJ in the "cage," and they said they'd put it out this week. They had.

I missed getting the wheels & tires, and it was practically resting on its drive train so couldn't get a shaft (for hack n tap), but I managed to score a set of JKS Quicker Disconnects for $26. With the sway bar still attached. Anybody need a sway bar?

There are still lots of other worthy parts on it, too, if anybody can figure out how to get it lifted up enough to get stuff out from under it. I don't think LKQ lets you take in jacks, do they?

Yeah yeah. I had a feeling your shop might be out there, I was passed out in the passenger seat going thru though. I don't sleep well in hotels.

They won't let you bring in a jack, but you can grab one of the engine hoists out there to lift the whole Jeep up to get parts out. There should be some of their welded-steel-wheel jack stand specials to put it on.

the story begins... Friday night i go to coworkers house.. they are Indian from India..
We eat curry potatoes, rice briani (?) and drink wine and beer til 3 am ..
