The "Hope I get it done by WF Oh-Ten" thread

Took a look at my anti-rock setup and don't like the angle of the arms, so I'm going to drill new holes in the axle mounts and cut the top off where they came already made. Should make for better angles and keep the rod ends out of the steering.

Got the floorplates for the cage welded in. I suck at welding, 'nuff said.

Still troubleshooting the front axle noise. I think it's either in the hub bearings or the r&p setup. Probably just going to run it and worry about it later.

Have to finish the light wiring on the front bumper, install the cb, get the antenna tuned and clean up. The stock tcase skid is going on as a temp piece until I can get to a steel place and fabricate something permanent.

I am BEYOND excited.

QUESTION:

When trailering, do you air down?

And what do you do with your disconnects? connected or disconnected??? In the past I was always aired up and connected.
Just curious? what do you all do?

BOB

air down, usually disconnected. straps to axles, crossed.

Done and I added a brace to the trac bar bracket to keep it from ripping from the frame during front digs.

now all I have to do is bleed the brakes and put a pound or two of air in the tires.
Don't forget to put the flare nut on BEFORE you flare the tube. :D

worked on the cutom roof sliders/roof rack today...probably could have gotten done if I did not start drinking beer about noon...I am hammered adn calling it a night...wheres teh asprin?...

Today I got the cb installed and operating. Got the co2 bottle bracket installed in the back. Have to drop it off at the local fire extinguisher place tomorrow.

Checked the alignment with my tape measure. Looks like it was running 1/2" toe out. Put it back to zero. Tracks well and there's no bumpsteer, so it's probably ok.

The axle noise is the ring and pinion. Only does it in forward and it's constant with speed. Since the hubs are always unlocked, I'm going to leave it until after WF. It will be fine at 10 mph around the badlands.

Still have to repair the frame tie-ins for the rear bumper I had to cut off when the shackle brackets went on, but other than that and wiring up the front lights, she's ready to wheel :D

Ghost sent me some inner front shafts he had laying around for a good price, so I'm still searching for some outers. I think I might have to bite the bullet and pick up a new pair. I've found them for $120 on ebay. Does anybody know about a better deal?

hey guys, i had a question. i'm trying to get my xj together in time for your winter feast. i'm getting the front gears set up this tuesday. i usually do mostly mud. i wanted to know what you though about running 35's on the dana 35 rear end, its a non c-clip version with out having spare safts? i cant afford to buy spare due to the fact i got laid off. i will be towing it both way,

Open? It might live.

Locked? Grenaded, sooner rather than later.

You can find spare shafts around here for cheap (usually free). If you wait until you actually break one, they tend to get more expensive.

Checked a couple of big ones off the list this weekend.

Jeep is finally running again. Been since 20 Dec.

And we have a place to sleep now. Bought a big ass columbia tent from Bass pro shops. 279 bucks.

Prolly take it back afterwards lol. J/K hoping this will be the tent to end my tent nightmares.

Right on! I plan on upgrading to a Kelty or something around that range. Wall world tents suck!

I don't even remember what was on my list.........
The only thing that's on it now though is to load the Jeep on the trailer and head northeast.:looney:

put new seats, fire extinguisher and first aid kit in the jeep yesterday. also got my tool boxes and hi lift secured.

hopefully i can get some lower gears in, and mayyyybe build my spare tire rack.

Well I just went to put new brakes on front and rear, and I discovered I need some 8.25 outer bearings. They are shot. Seems thats where my vib is coming from. So I gotta fix that and I'm gonna wait to put the new brakes on all the way around til AFTER WF. That way if i trash the old ones, oh well.

Well, in the last couple of days I went from "just need to jump in it and go" to probably 4-8 hours worth of work (for me).

1) Trans stopped shifting electronically and is just behaving strangely all around. Appears that at a minimum two trans solenoids are bad and not sure what else.

2) Narrowed down my front end popping to a jiggly axle shaft u-joint on the D30, so gotta tear that down.

3) Went for a drive tonight and smelled antifreeze...that heater control valve thingy is cracked, so need to track down one of those.

Hope I can get it done...

8.8 is in, replaced front clip, now just to get rear shocks on and take it for a short drive then load onto trailer...
