so why bushings on the uppers and not JJ's?



I personally prefer to never use JJ's, most have too much maintenance for my preference. Why use a JJ when you can use a good rod end? Most do it for less cost, screw less cost. We can't easily use a rod end on the front upper arms without cutting off the ends of the Full Traction arms and threading them for a rod end and making a different mount on the axle. We decided to not modify the arms and make the axle accept normal XJ/TJ upper arms not knowing what these parts might ever get used for down the road. So, that meant either use the small 2" size captured JJ that will fit the arms, or use bushings, we chose bushings. A season of racing will tell if we made the right decision.
 
Only concern I see is the butt welded C and supporting all forces from the front end, in any lateral force is being supported by that butt weld and a lower gussett that the weld is still only a 1.5" length.

You have any concerns with it?



The diameter of the 3" tube, and hence the length of the butt weld, is 9.5". Mild steel has a strength of 60,000 psi (mig wire is 70,000) and the weld width is roughly .5". That gives an area of 4.5 square inch of weld, at 60,000 per inch, so that's 285,000 lbs if the Currie welds are good quality. Should be strong enough. :D

If you think about it, that C is welded on with quite a bit more beef than the typical track bar mount.

rod ends are cheaper than JJ's :rtm:

I won't argue with any of your other logic, you guys are the racers, you know more than I do...

but I will check back in at the end of the race to see if you change your mind :shhh:

As an afterthought, Russ decided to replace the push rods in the number 6 hole with .050 shorter ones. I don't think I'm smart enough to understand why.

I found it interesting that even the shims under the beehive valve springs are petty cash blue..

is that spacer so you can run the rollers with the stock valve cover?
