T&T Project Low Wagon

No, we've been waiting for the final pics. I could give a crap how long it took you to get the fenders sorted out......................:D

Yeah, what he said.

We got everything buttoned up for the most part on Friday. Just in time for me to take it on a 500 mile test ride to go wheeling with a group in Southern Colorado. The trail we ran is called Medano Pass which has 14 water crossings plus several mud holes so it's a bit dirty :D

Our ultimate goal of 4" didn't work out as we were unable to get decent uptravel in the rear with that short of a setup. We decided to leave it at the 5.5" height it was previously which is still fairly low for an XJ on 37's

I'm supposed to be going up to South Dakota next week to go wheeling for four days so we'll get some better pics and let you know how it works.

Looks great!

Thanks for joining us again. We had a great time and no one broke down this time so that was a +. The low wagon looked great. Things didn't go as planned while at the Dunes I was a little distracted with the Brithday Party.

No worries it was still a good time. I'm glad I was able to make it down again this year. Mayeb we can go do Penrose one of these days.

Looks Sweet. Great work as always.

Do you have any concerns about the tie rod being down that low? I know you dont have much of a choice with the WJ/JK stuff, but have you ever thought about getting a right hand drive knuckle for the left and then running the tie rod on the bottom of the "high steer" arm (with the drag link on top of the high steer on the right side)? You would have to drill it out and run heims, but it would get you some more clearance. Just an idea...

Dedenbear makes a high steer knuckle set.

Those are cool. What happens on the other side though? That looks like it would be in the way of the factory "high steer" arm on the drivers side. Actually though, Dedenbear is no longer in business. Reid Racing bought them out or something. Now... the cool thing is that the offer a Dana 30 style knuckle that allows you to use a chevy spindle, and a traditional hub and rotor, and it even has the high steer arm mounts made to it, as in, its a true flat top knuckle for a new style Dana 30/44.

Cool, I looked on the website but they didn't have any good pictures like what you posted. Those are cool for sure!

Yes, yes they are in fact. I can't stand people who just bash the 30. Why? I mean, hell, the 30 has its place in life. No, you can't run 40s on one, but 35s are safe. Unless you are a complete dumb ass and do things you shouldn't, a Dana 30 can live a long happy life in a jeep, especially if it's built up.

No one says it doesn't have it's place in life. It is a great axle for light duty use but has the world's worst ball joints and casting.

Yeah, Reid, Dedenbear, I use the names interchangeably.

Interesting how the casting of the Reid/Dedenbear prevents the tie rod from being mounted over the knuckle. But I guess they think it doesn't need to be when the mounting arm is moved up.

We actually ran a very similar setup when this axle was in a different Jeep. We drilled the knuckles and ran heims on the tie rod and machined down the nut for the draglink. It worked fine but the clearances were extremely tight and I don't think I would trust it under hard abuse. We cut off the upper arm and tried an inverted "T" setup which would have worked awesome except the wheels have too much offset and crashed into it when turning.

We're taking it up to South Dakota next week for some great wheeling so we'll see how the test run goes.
