...sorry...another build thread...

Next on the list is getting the hydro assist ram cylinder on and cutting down the front coils, and replacing track bar heims, again. I think I kill 3-4 sets of ruffstuff track bar heims a year.

did some frame plating behind the box. no cracks but trying to chase down a sort of knock or thud when turning the wheel back and forth. not much luck. also got the borgeson steering shaft in.

made a cardboard template then made this. drilled it out 29 times on the drill press for plug welds.

then welded it up. tight fit welding in here. when I pull the motor in the spring ill plate more crap:

borgeson shaft:

I have way too much money into this steering but its pretty sexy so its worth it.

phil came over. it is for sure the ruffstuff heims that are bad.

Dan brought up a good point that maybe the trackbar setup causing them to bind. I will take it in to ruffstuff soon and have them look it over after the next set of heims.

LOL you did too huh? Shit Dan from ruffstuff mentioned that too. I mean looking at the damn thing it looks good to me. I don't see how it would bind, other than the track bar is shorter than the drag link but when I droop it out in the garage I think the shocks would limit it before the track bar.

so cut off a ton of stuff for the old stabilizer mounts and started mounting up the ram. its a 1.5"x8" and its too long. I have a throw of about 7.25", so I am going to see if I can get a custom ram at 7.25 so I am not breaking steering knuckles.

Disassemble the ram and add internal stops? I've seen write ups that look pretty simple. I ran an 8" ram on the chevy 44 in the front of my old waggy without any adjustments, maybe it was the angle at which it was mounted?

Hmm that could work . ill look into that. Ill try to call PSC today and get some information.

Doing work! Yeah internal stops should be easy and fast option to your sdesired length. I stopped buying ruff stuff heims a while ago and started running FK heims. They've lasted way longer for me.

I called PSC. the tech there said the 1.5" x8" is too small for 37s and will work better for 40-42" tires. so he is setting me up with a 1.75x8" with custom stroke at 7.5" after doing an over the phone measurement to get the proper stroke.

That seems like strange advice, I've always read the bigger the ram the more force it will have and the slower it will turn. Logic would say 1.5" smaller tire 1.75" larger tire?

Sorry I mis typed. I meant to say that he said the 1.5x8 is too small a bore, he recommended that I go with a 1.75 x 7.5 for the 37s (my stroke is 7.5") . He said with the big bore box all tricked out and the PSC pump that the 1.5x8 would be too fast. He recommended that I go with the bigger bore to slow things down and that the bigger bore would hold up toe 40s-42s further down the road.

ya i was all over the place typing that last one . sorry.

so I am thinking about building super beef track bar out of 2" .250 DOM and .125" heims. I got weld slag in my weld in bungs through the plug welds and now the new track bar is fubar. heims are done, weld in bungs are done, new 1.75" DOM is done. damn. going to Ruffstuff tomorrow after work or for a long lunch and going to see if they can machine down the 1.25" misalignments to 2" wide....

Thats what i did with my frame side trackbar. Any machine shop should be able to take them down.
ya I am thinking the 1.25" heims wont die too fast on a trackbar which would be nice

RAM is in , steering is slower.

Looks good in there Jon. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what could be making it slower? Or is that what you were shooting for?

hydro assist will slow things down thats all, and with the bigger RAM its a little slower.
