Smog up hurr it's better if the thing is super hot! don't deal with nox here... can you just block off the egr?
not sure I can do that . I think it will fail visual then. Blocking it off might hurt NOX since exhausts gasses lower combustion temps. I got a new set of plugs, for the third time. First was stock , then one heat range lower, these are tow heat ranges lower. Ill try these out. I am also going to check the EGR to make sure its working right, and might put that stock air box venturi thing back in the tube since its there stock. Also plan to move the CPS back a little bit since I think I drilled out the holes and moved it forward originally which should advance the timing so maybe retarding the timing a bit will help get it cooler. . and look for more exhaust leaks, intake and vacuum leaks too. I am thinking about capping the FPR and letting it run at 39 PSI to see if it will dump more fuel. I fixed 4 exhaust leaks, but it sounds like there are more. Like maybe a big one at the manifold itself.
also going to have him run it in 3rd gear and not OD hopefully.
Does the Super hot cat thing also help with NOX? I thought that was just CO and HC? I was thinking of taking it in cold to help keep it cooler , longer to keep NOX down longer. I know the 3 way cats help with NOX, but do they have to be hot to help with this? or is the hot part just for CO and HC?
Nox went down about 700 PPM on the 15 mph to pass, and only went down around 200 ppm on the 25 MPH test.
from what I've read about half gallon of denatured alcohol will help it run cooler too.
and I am going to air up the tires.
and test all the sensors again just to be safe.
and change the oil for the hell of it. Alhtough I think the oil is fairly new.
and taking some brake cleaner or water to the manifold and vacuum stuff to see if I can find more leaks.
and probably put the torque converter lockup switch on.
I am even considering just leaving the engine cold and pre-heating the cat with a map gas torch so the motor stays cool while the cat operates hot?
I read this in a few different places online :
In no way will a catalytic converter reduce excessively high NOx levels.
therefore a hot cat wont help too much for my high Nox?
I am also seriously considering pulling the T stat out just to smog it as well.
anyone know if pulling the vacuum line to the FPR will help it dump more fuel?
