...sorry...another build thread...

Wonder if there dimensions are accurate. If so id grab one. That puppy is thin. Mine is at least 5" thick. Hangs below the rails even though its touching the floor of the jeep. The floor is even pushed up in that area from me landing on the cat.

Can you take some measurements when you get it? Mainly the thickness from top to bottom and then the length.

You have a late model XJ, so that specific model is not for your vehicle. But I do not necessarily see the OBD2 cat being larger.
I believe that carsound makes cats for both Walker and Magnaflow, probably few others.
Honestly, if anything, buy a cat that works for when you need to smog. And then remove/swap it when you do not.

You are correct. The 96-99 number is walker 82704. It has a size similar to the one jon posted. It just a hair thicker at 3 1/4" thick. Summit has them at 160 shipped. Good luck jon. Sorry to clutter.

check amazon. plus you get free 2 day shipping with the free trial version of amazon prime. I found the cats cheaper on amazon.
a lot cheaper than summit.

Pulled the j10 box and the newer power steering pump from AZ. Tapped the new Psc pump and need to grab some bolts in the am to get il the pump in and the new box on. Love this pic. Getting tube weeks or months ago .

To make the tj pump work you have to tap the pump in 2 of the bolts and drill out the renix pump bracket to make it all work. I went fine thread 3/8 -24.

ordered a Snap On MT2500 off ebay with jeep cables and cartridges...

FYI, jegs will price match amazon, and they also have free S&H

thats good to know. Doesn't help me for the MT2500, but other things yes. Amazon also does the free 2 day shipping with Prime so i love that. Jegs probably cant match that.

new cat welded in. the old one was a tiny little baby.

put in the colder plugs these are the almost brand new older plugs from a month ago:

part number for one heat range below the renix stock plugs (renix are heat range 5 in NGK, these are 6, which is one colder than stock)

welded a leg to the pass side slider extension

got the new pump and box in . had to tap a lot of holes in the new pump and the pump bracketry.

bent the high pressure line to clear some non sense:

install the old pulley:

before the pulley tap some holes with your snap on set:

go to joshes in between and install shelving for the day

make sure its flush:

drill out/opne up the PS bracket for the new larger bolts since the TJ pump from pSC has larger holes than the factory bolts. I went with 3/8-24 on everything.

psc box is in

I really want to hit the con friday night. who wants to go? I wont have time to get the Ram in since I still have to smog the POS

I know, but not EVERYTHING on amazon is available for prime shipping. I try and purchase those that are, but some times it's not there.
Nice find on the MT2500.

Yep I noticed that. I love the 2 day shipping on everything already.

I still have the "student" prime, but if I did not, I would go in on the cost of prime with a handful of people. LastI knew on the "regular" Prime you can have 4 or 5 email accounts linked to it.

slapped in a new EGR valve, new FPR, and a NGK o2 sensor tonight. Then I hooked up a shop vac to the tail pipe to look for exhaust leaks. Not what I expected. I have about 4 huge ones.

One at the flange at the cat. I cranked the bolts down as tight as possible. Plus it has a brand new gasket. calling it good. that was an easy one.

the other 3 where due to the pacesetter header. their idea of U clamps is just plain F-ing stupid.
One where the down pipe bolts on with the U bolt clamps 2 feet before the cat flange kinda under the tranny-I welded it up but I couldn't reach the very top at all even using a mirror while welding. So I just picked up some of that quick steel for exhausts, says its rated at 2400* and tried to just glob it on there.

the last 2 where at the collector at the manifold to the down pipe. big ones. its like those U bolt clamps don't seal at all. I used some of the quick steel there to try to seal them up. But I don't trust it. My plan is to buy 2 more U bolt clamps, weld 2 bolts to one side to two of them, then use the two of them to clamp the exhaust Y pipes together since from what I've noticed all the U bolt clamps leak on the U bolt side, at least all 3 of mine do, and they are cranked down as hard as possible.

Jon, What is the PN of the O2 sensor you got?

its the renix NGK sensor.

failed smog again. passed NOX at 15 mph, but failed at 25 mph and passed everything else with like zero emissions. I plan to go one more heat range colder with the plugs, check for more exhaust leaks and intake leaks and vacuum leaks, and to make sure the EGR is functioning. I also plan to take it in cold next time. Last few times I've warmed it up and I am thinking that is not helping. Ill take it in early in the am and dead cold.

I am thinking get it to run cooler?

Does the cat need to be hot to help burn off NOX? I was thinking of taking it in cold to help make it urn richer ?

Smog up hurr it's better if the thing is super hot! don't deal with nox here... can you just block off the egr?

not sure I can do that . I think it will fail visual then. Blocking it off might hurt NOX since exhausts gasses lower combustion temps. I got a new set of plugs, for the third time. First was stock , then one heat range lower, these are tow heat ranges lower. Ill try these out. I am also going to check the EGR to make sure its working right, and might put that stock air box venturi thing back in the tube since its there stock. Also plan to move the CPS back a little bit since I think I drilled out the holes and moved it forward originally which should advance the timing so maybe retarding the timing a bit will help get it cooler. . and look for more exhaust leaks, intake and vacuum leaks too. I am thinking about capping the FPR and letting it run at 39 PSI to see if it will dump more fuel. I fixed 4 exhaust leaks, but it sounds like there are more. Like maybe a big one at the manifold itself.

also going to have him run it in 3rd gear and not OD hopefully.

Does the Super hot cat thing also help with NOX? I thought that was just CO and HC? I was thinking of taking it in cold to help keep it cooler , longer to keep NOX down longer. I know the 3 way cats help with NOX, but do they have to be hot to help with this? or is the hot part just for CO and HC?

Nox went down about 700 PPM on the 15 mph to pass, and only went down around 200 ppm on the 25 MPH test.

from what I've read about half gallon of denatured alcohol will help it run cooler too.

and I am going to air up the tires.

and test all the sensors again just to be safe.

and change the oil for the hell of it. Alhtough I think the oil is fairly new.

and taking some brake cleaner or water to the manifold and vacuum stuff to see if I can find more leaks.

and probably put the torque converter lockup switch on.

I am even considering just leaving the engine cold and pre-heating the cat with a map gas torch so the motor stays cool while the cat operates hot?

I read this in a few different places online :

In no way will a catalytic converter reduce excessively high NOx levels.

therefore a hot cat wont help too much for my high Nox?

I am also seriously considering pulling the T stat out just to smog it as well.

anyone know if pulling the vacuum line to the FPR will help it dump more fuel?

passed SMOG!
Had 2 more exhaust leaks that I found and a slight intake leak. Also for good measure I threw in a second heat range colder plug in, and one bottle of HEET , and Lucas octane booster. I also cleaned all the sensor connections, cleaned the battery terminals (better connection), I left the positive terminal off overnight, and aired up the tires from 25 to 35 PSI, and took it in cold and left the Efan on. It dropped NOX from 1100 to 11ppm at the 25 MPH test.

this was on top of everything else I had already done. Emissions where actually crazy low across the board.

passed smog on friday:

I rushed into it head first 3 different times. Finally nailed it .

went to fordyce friday night after work after smogging the rig in the morning . great times up there.

patrick:

got one of these in the mail. It reads the renix XJ. pretty sweet. Already hooked it up and ran it. Everything looks good except ST fuel trim is a little low.

I have some massive popping and creaking . I normally can find it fast wight the GF turning the wheel back and forth while I search every joint and bolt and frame. Nothing after searching for like 20 mins straight. going to pull the box and plate the inner frame and maybe add some additional outer frame plating and more through frame bolts and maybe some rivets. maybe add a second across frame track bar brace.
