...sorry...another build thread...

got some beadlocks on tonight. those things are a PIA to install. basically put the rings on first , lightly torqued, then aired it up while it sat on top of a 5 gal bucket, then torqued down to 15 ftlbs. using extra nuts as a anti coning ring. test drive on the freeway was great. no vibes. they are not balanced, and I am not using any airsoft or anything. not too shabby... lets go snow wheeling...

Ya ive read alot of guys on pirate use the airsoft and lots of other dudes use them. He said they were no good, so i treid it without them. The rims work great so far. no vibes.

jon you can't make a build update like that without pics man...its just not kosher.

ill post pics later. Love the speed air bleeders in the new rims too. will be nice to wheel below 8psi from my old 8" rims in some situations, as well as the protection to the outer bead given by the rings. The only thing that is an issue: my air compressor will probably take 2 hours to air 4 36s from 2-3 psi to 25psi....

I really hope you don't run 2 to 3 PSI

I have been doing some research, and I think my timing may be too advanced, thus eventual hot temps over long strains in the mtns. I have the CPS clocked so far by cutting and welding the mount really far passenger. ordered a new CPS from napa and I am going to slap it on, and pay more attention to temps on the next run before I go buy a new all aluminum radiator...

pulled manifolds off to install the pacesetter headers. decided to do the driver side brown dog engine side motor mount while it was off . Sweet freaking mount. I really want to do the passenger side now soon:

wrapped header in lava fiber wrap from summit, adn wrapped underside of the intake manifold with the DEI gold heat tape sheet:

installed partially at least:

last bolts on the bottom where a PIA to get on.

cut and welded EGR tube shorter:

Ya i used the header version, it gets really close to the mount, like really close. I couldnt imagine using the non header version.

thing still runs a tad hotter than I wanted, so I will try a few radiators out, I found a single row (1.5") for 90$ shipped and the champion (american eagle) 2 row with 1" cores for 180$ ish . I want to go all aluminum this time. the last aluminum radiator I had seemed to cool better. Right now I have a 3 row CSF all metal.

I really hope you don't run 2 to 3 PSI

I run 3 psi in the snow with my beadlocks and it works great. On rocks 8 psi works perfect.

Ya last time up i was around 5-7 in the snow and I kinda regret not going down to 0-3 range.

these iroks are tough as well . even at 2 psi i cant tell they are even low on air with the beadlocks...

rotors:
WJ rotors : 12" XJ rotors :11"
pads:
almost the same, WJ are a few thousands wider and longer, measured with dial calipers
calipers:
better design for the calipers to slide, and of course, the dual caliper pistons versus single caliper pistons, I can definely notice the increased clamping force.

also, I already had the WJ booster and master cylinder installed before this, and a ZJ proportioning valve, and all new 8.8 rear discs, so that helped alot.

I love the idea of better breaks. WJ is the way to go! Nice job Jon.

years ago I did the rear discs.
brakes got better.
then did WJ booster and master
brakes still got better.
then did ZJ prop valve spring, got a little better with more pressure to the rear
then i finally did the WJ knuckles/brakes (akebono 03-04 )
and even with all of the above brake upgrades, this was still by far the greatest upgrade. very very pleased with it.
I went from worrying about running the 36s+heavier beadlocks to not worrying at all, with probably the best brakes ive had in a while.

changed rear diff and tcase fluids tonight. replaced with all lucas stuff. also swapped in some boomerang shackles, got almost an 1" over the old rear shackles which were 3/4" lift shackles.
