...sorry...another build thread...

by the way i dont plan on running any dana 35s on the trail. hahaha! and slickrock is so much easier than fordyce.

so i picked up rocksluts LP30 with 4.88s and lockright as a temporary axle.
im going to weld up some LCA skids and a UCA pass side truss first.

then i will be doing some things to mine:
sell the true trac and install aussie/open carrier with new bearings etc
WJ outers and ruffstuff steering (dual caliper pistons and higher tie rod, better drag link angles, and no more inverted Y setup)
ruffstuff trackbar(pan hard mount) more DOM and some heims- i will be making my trackbar almost flat , it will be very nice.

im going to truss top and bottom of the 30 on both sides
going to gusset the Cs as well.

maybe even considering getting the gears cryod while its all apart as well.

ummm blam blam bam alam alam oh black betty...

so i welded up some LCA skids yesterday on the LP 30. im gonig to weld the tubes to the housing tonight and truss the pass side UCA mount as well before it goes in, even though it wont be a permanent axle the next guy will appreciate that stuff.

furthermore , ive been pricing used parts for a WJ knuckle swap with steering and its more pricey (600-700$ minimum but you get a better steering setup, raised trackbar, and better brakes) but i could just build a 44 ...
the only thing against a 44 is that i already have chromos and cover and locker and some other stuff like skids into my HP 30. damn.

ill be looking at 44s on craigslist from time to time .

Honestly, just build a 44. And just sell the chromos and cover and stuff to get some money back.

For about the same money, you can't beat the bigger ring gear, thicker tubes, stronger shafts, bigger brakes/knuckles ect. Money can't (reasonably) buy that for the 30.

X2 been there. I wasted a lot of money on my 30 when i should of just went right to the 44.

ive been reading alot about which 44. it seems the late 70s ford 150s are the way to go?
what did you guys use when you did your 44 swap?

1979 ford F250 HP44 is what i have but the F150 is closer to the right width stock.

Waggy 44 since I didn't want to shorten anything and I am staying low so the low pinion isn't an issue.. I am glad you are considering not polishing the Turd anymore!!:sunshine:

I've got WJ knuckles, spacers & core calipers sitting in a bin under my work bench, if you are interested. Been holding them a while, thinking "maybe someday" but I'll probably go ZJ steering & Black Magic brakes in the end.
What I'm saying is, make me an offer if you decide to go the WJ route.

im very interested in the WJ stuff. ill send a pm

for the 44 guys, what did you do as far as mating to 5 on 4.5? billet adapters? keep the 6 lug ?

Your gonna have to switch bolt patterns. I just finished mine. I used an early f150 with weld on wedges that I cut off and narrowed the housing to waggy width. The axle tubes are super beefy at 0.500 wall. Not to mention the larger ring and pinion.

im leaning towards the WJ stuff and sleeving the dana 30 tubes since i already have chromos, locker, ruffstuff, skids, ball joints, and tons of spare parts and steering . i might end up building a 44 on the side after i build this dana 30.

I'm keeping the 6 lug for the big bearing spindles and to match my rodeo rear. Revrok is doing a Waggy 44 too. He is doing the spindle swap so he can keep the a 5 on 4.5. I think he has an 8.8 out back. Where were you this weekend? you coulda came out and watched me make an ass out of myself open/open on DV..:farmer:

my 30 is not really wheelable right now otherwise i had made plans to go. i was bummed.
im gonna swap the lp30 after some more welding tonight .
in the next few months ill then throw some Wj knuckles on my 30/goferit inserts/DOM and move the rackbar mount up. and sleeve the tubes and truss/gusset whatever i can and maybe tie a truss into the diff cover as well as swap in a locker back in and new bearings/seals.

then ill most likely throw the LP30 carrier and locker into my CJ5 narrow track 30 that will be sitting around for a while.
in the meantime ill be throwin a dana 25 with a disc conversion and a lockright with all new bearings and seals that is ready to go while i work on other things like pulling the tranny and doing all the seals etc on the thing.

swapped in the Lp30 this week.
i hope the truss helps with the locker.
the RE 4.5" springs dropped the front down significantly. i need to now check trackbar clearance now. dropped the front down like 3". it used to raked front to back, now its raked back to front. im gonna drive it for a while and maybe after the next wheeling trip if it caused issues ill throw the 5.5" coils back in.

now its time to start figuring out what to do with the hp30. i do have an ARB lying around and a compressor. i need to test it. if its good, its going in the HP30
