Rubicon Trail - June 26 - 30, 2010

Do any of the guys going on the trip have a way to tune a CB. I need the tuner device (not sure what it is called) because my range was about 10 miles when I had my cb in my TJ but it is about 200 ft right now in my XJ. We could just tune it the first night of camping if one of you guys could bring the device.

When you ran the Con in the past did you actually have water coming up into your cab? I'm running a 7.5" lift on 35's. If I get water in my cab then some of the lower built rigs will end up drowning.

The stuff on the floor in the back will get wet at the water crossings usually, and change your diff, fluids when you return, my 2 cents....SANTA

I was told to do the same. How deep are the crossings and are there bypasses for the smaller rigs that are coming? Last thing we need is to have someone hydolock their rigs 400 miles from home.

When we did it early season in 2005, the water was deep enough to come in through my windows .. with 4.5" lift and 32's, and there are not a lot of bypasses to be had.

Not sure if you guys saw my post earlier about tuning a CB. Can anyone going on this trip help me tune my CB?

Thanks for the info guys! ill have all my camping gear and clothers up top on a roof top cargo dealy. food will be in the cooler so im hoping to keep as much of my belongings dry.

I'm up in the San Bernardino mtns. so that would be just a tad out of my way. I appreciate the offer.

what type of antenna do you have? is the tip adjustable?

It's a firestick II with the adjustable tip. I guess I could just play around with the tip until it got better, but I would really just be doing it blind. I know there is a device designed to tune a CB, I just don't own one.

It's an SWR meter that you're looking for, Brad. I know folks that have one, but don't have one myself. I can see if I can borrow one from a friend if no one that's going has one.

As far as water crossings, I'd think we'd send the highest-bodied rig through, determine water depth, and if there's likelihood of hydrolocking on shorter vehicle/s, tow that rig thru the water after sealing off the intake as well as possible.

I think this group's capable of doing the "take your time, do it smart" method of wheeling.

So is Mike (OceanJet) the only one that has a winch?

Is anyone planning to meet up at the rest stop in Lebec?

It is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...92,-118.870547&spn=0.007187,0.013711&t=h&z=16

We should be there between 7:00 and 8:00 am on Saturday morning. If you plan to meet in Lebec, please PM me your cell phone number and confirm that you plan to meet there. We won't leave until everyone who says they plan to meet there is there.

To anyone who won't be caravaning with me up 99 (via Bakersfield), if you want the combination to the lock at the campsite PM me and I will send it to you. Then, if you get there first you can get in.

Ted, you planning on caravaning with me and Carol at about 4-5am Saturday?
