Rubicon Trail - June 26 - 30, 2010

I do not have a winch. I have a couple sets of heavy duty straps that have always gotten me out of bad spots. In regards to meeting up with people; Vince and I are coming up the 395. I mapquested the directions from the IE up to 5 and the IE up the 395 and the drive is 30 minutes shorter on the 395. We are leaving at 5:00 am. I expect us to show up at camp at about 4:00 pm.

Is anyone bringin snow chains? I'm not sure if we need them and if we have people coming that don't even own them, there is no point bringing mine. That's just 75lbs. more of unneccesary weight.

Edit: I almost forgot; do we have someone coming that is bringing the equipment needed to weld with a rod and batteries (and actually knows how do weld like that)? I am bringing my 20' heavy duty cables if that will help.

I'll PM you the campground info in case you get there first.

I do think you'll need them.

I got the rod and some jumper cables, and I'll pack a file and a wire brush. I thought someone else posted that they had eye protection and gloves to bring.

I have never welded this way. I thought someone said they knew how...?

I bet we could figure it out if we had to.

You think so? Would I be screwed without chains?

Here's what I'm thinking; Either we all have them or it's pointless. If we get into an area that we can only get through with chains and someone doesn't have chains then we have to turn back. Were not leaving someone on the trail. We ALL have to decide if we want to bring chains. If only one or two of us have chains, then we should forget it because a set of 4 chains on some big tires can get very pricey not to mention almost impossible to find in So Cal in June. If we all have chains for our rigs and there is no big bucks that have to be put out, then we should all bring them. I hope that made sense.

If you could add the campsite # to your PM I would appreciate it.

Also, not sure if we got to the bottom of this. Do we have someone coming who can stick weld with cables?

What time will the San Diego caravan be coming through O-side/leaving the county?

We're not going through O-side. I'll be heading up 15 to 91 to 71 to 57 to 210 to 5. We can meet at the Park-n-Ride off 15 near 76 if you want.

Fack!
Does that mean we all need to bring a small bundle for our 1st night? Also, i can meet up wit you guys in the LEbec rest area. i can shoot to be there by 8:00-:8:30. There is also a "Flying J" truck stop on the way up where we could meet up.

Yes, Julio, we should all bring some sort of wood ; I'll bring a bundle or two I have floating around in my Jeep, as long as there's room in Mike's Jeep. Mike said he has a small chainsaw & an axe, too.

And sure, we can likely meet up with you on the way North. We'll definitely be stopping in B'field to pick up the PET toilet en route, too.

Are we there yet????

Ugh... How many folks have gotten the fire permits yet? I just tried to go online to get a campfire permit at the http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia/passespermits/campfire_permit/campfire-index.html link, and got this:

Thanks!

I got 3 fire permits. I wasn't sure if we only need one for the whole group or one for each night so I got 3 and then took them down and had them signed at the local ranger station. So we should be good to go with fire permits.

They were free. I didn't ask him anything because I had my 5 month old with me who decided to get histerical right as I entered the building. I was just trying to get in and out quickly. I will bring some fire wood for at least one night. Do we still have someone bringing the rods for welding?
