That could be fun, but how many rigs are you talking about?

:dunno:

When were you guys thinking of coming out? Got some dates?

I'm thinking, after reading your post on the IC thread, mid-Sept. with 4-6 rigs. So far there are a couple of guys from IC plus me, my daughter, & TJ Ron. I think with some more chatter & gentle prodding we get as many as 8 or 9 to go:dunno: !!

The one & only time I ran the trail, we went in from Wentworth Springs, camped overnight at Spider Lake, & went back out to the reservior that I forget the name of, so I've never been all the way through to Tahoe:shhh:

We would need a day on either end for the commute, so I dont know if we could make it through in 1 day, or camp out & still get to Tahoe & drive home on Sun.( about 8 hrs from Reno ). I'm sure this will make a difference to some, personally I'll take a Fri - Mon to make it happen!! wudya think?? :dunno:

Thanks for your interest in this !! I'm going to check the IC board to see if there is any new interest . I'll checkin later:kissyou:

Thanks again

The sierra chapter BOD is working out our run schedule for 2008, and we are actually planning on a Rubicon run in mid - late July...

would this perhaps work out for you?

This could be fun, just remember the Toyotathon runs near the end of June and getting stuck behind all them old landcrusers can be a big PITA!

You went in Wentworth Springs and back out Loon Lake, good option for the people that have trailers.

I would take more time, it is a great trail to camp on, if it was me, I would want to spend 2 nights on the trail, if it is posible. I like to go in on a Friday morning and then out on a sunday, one day to do nothing!

( . . . or a day to fix your broken parts :anon: )

Didnt this happen two years ago on Phils Rubicon run? I remember being stuck on a hill waiting for a couple cruisers to get out of the way.

Yeah we got stuck going down Big Sluice as a group was trying to go out from the springs back to loon on a sunday, and Phil and others got stuck going up Cadilac hill. I rember hearing there was over 75 rigs in that group and this year is the 20th year.

No dates up yet but here is the site:

That's it!! LOON LAKE!! I was thinking of driving out Fri. & camping at either Wentworth or Loon Lake, start the trail Sat morn.& run up to Spider Lake or Rubicon Springs & camp Sat. night, finish the trail to Tahoe Sun. & hotel it in Reno Sun night. Then drive home Mon.

Even with no major breaks it would be a fairly tight schedule, yes??

As far as towing goes, we could leave the tow rigs in Reno & road dog the rest of the way to the trail head:scottm: !

Late July poses a problem, in Utah, the 24th is Pioneer Day (Statehood Day everywhere else). Lots of family reunions & 3 day parties planed around that weekend. Trying to plan to close to that would limit interest, I'm afraid:rattle:

Running in on a Saturday morning poses a problem with traffic on the trail. If you could swing it, I would suggest running in on Friday morning. The other issue is getting a decent camp spot once the crowds get in there Saturday. Camping at Buck Island Lake for 2 nights is well worth it. And it would also give you an extra day to rest and relax considering the amount of driving you guys will be doing.

If you guys were towing, then I would suggest parking at a casino in South Lake Tahoe. Much closer to the trail both going in and coming out. The casinos have security that will keep an eye on them while you are away.

TRNDRVR & a buddy are planning to wheel that area 9/23 to 10/1 which would cover the weekend & a few days on either end to run some other trails in the area.

I think the biggest issue is that the 25th aniversery Fall Fling is only a few weeks behind this weekend I don't know how many will want to commit more than 2 vacation days to this trip:dunno: ?

Maybeee, we travel Thurs., trail Fri. & Sat., & travel back on Sun. Question is, will any of you guys want to take a Fri. off to run with us?? Orrrr, if we run that late in Sept., is Sat. traffic that big of an issue??:eyes:

Check out the thread on the IC board to see what these guys are thinking!:wantyou: Any & all input & encouragement would go a long way toward making this thing happen:greensmok !

If dan is coming, id be down to take a weekday off... :guitar:

I am trailering and CANT street, so I might run just part of the trail and head out on my own or whatever...
Though, I probably am not going to Moab Fall Fling 'cuse I cant afford to take "that" much time off...

I should be there. I'll be there the whole week though. Want to run Fordyce and Barrett lake trails too. If possible.

Basically we can run trails 6-7 days (9/25-10/01). Can all those trails be run in that amount of time?

Dan.

Assuming you have a small group and no catastrophic breakage - yes. Fordyce can be run in a single day, barrett can be run in a single day, and the rubicon needs two days.

But with that said, I wouldn't try to cram 3 trails in six days. I think you will wind up very tired and stressed out. If it were me, I would run fordyce in 2 days. Take a day to relax, fix, and work your way over to the Con to spend 3 days - 1 day wheeling in, 1 day relaxing, 1 day wheeling out. After fordyce and the con, barrett isn't quite as fun/challenging. A good trail nonetheless, but I think your time will be better spent taking it slow on the other trails.

Very well said, I could not have said it better myself, the rubicon can be done in a day but you need to be with a small, lean, and a fast group that knows the trail, if you don't want to be on the trail till well after midnight.

Now we're back to the issue of who, besides Dan & his buddy, can devote that much time to the run!!!!1

I can take W T F S S or T F S S M either way that gives me 3 wheeling days & 1 travel day on each end, Im open to all kinds of options, but alot of others are only going to be able to get 2 days off! That means doing the Rubicon in 2 days, if those guys are going to come.

Personally, I wouldn't mind running Barrett Lake on thurs as a warmup / shakedown run!
Rubicon F & S , & home on Sun. That would leave Dan & those with more time S M T to run Fordyce or whatever else at their leisure, & I'll save Fordice for another time:anon: !

Believe me, if I had the time I'ld camp 2 nights on each trail, but if I'm going to drive that far to go wheeling, I'm going to get all I can out of it for the time I have!!

Nothing has to be decided for a few months, so these are all options right now.

Thanks again for your input, it really helps us plan things & generate interest:worship: !!
