Anyone planning on going?

These were the previous dates set for the SierraFest but that has been officially cancelled. I still have the time off and am planning on going.

I can't make it to the Barrett Lake run that Bryan C has planned on the Sat/Sun before this, but would be interested in running it sometime Mon - Fri as well either in place of or along with doing the 'Con too.

I pretty much plan on taking that entire week off. I am less and less convinced that my new rig will be ready for a Sierra trip, but the old standby is still available.

Since I will be racing all weekend, not starting Monday morning would be a whole lot better for me. I would love to have an extra day to get ready, and not start till Tuesday... That way I will be more likely to have the new XJ ready to go.

:yelclap: Hey Eric and Travis,
We are still going on the Rubicon trail 14th 8:00-10:00AM at the Loon Lake Dam to 15-16th ish and are willing, with a group, to
do the Fordyce trail or Barrett Lake trail the same week.I have not done the Fordyce trail so those water crossings look deep:pirate1: I think some others are still going Mon.also.
"So who is going?"____________?We are flexable
I have,87 White Woody 33"MT's rear 44/locker GPS
Hope you can all make it.

Canyonman: glad to hear someone else is going to. It sounds as if my local buddy above would rather go in closer to mid-week and that would be easier for me also. The wife is now trying to sabotage my vacation because I made the mistake of telling her the run was cancelled! :twak: That brings me to a possible change of plans on my part.

What do you and Travis think about running Barrett Lake either on Thurs / Fri or Fri / Sat or even possibly Wed / Thu?

I'm running the 'Con in September too so I could skip it this week but I'd really like to try Barrett Lake which I have never done before.

Either way I want to be up there wheeling somewhere. :laugh3:

I'm in for a midweek Barrett run. Wed/Thurs or Thurs/Fri would be great...

The new beast is basically done (seatbelts and shocks...), but I hate to have the trial run be the run up to and over the Rubicon trail. A couple of days to do some testing locally where I can troubleshoot if I have to would be a huge bonus. And of course, if the rig isn't good to go, I will bring the white POS.

Thursday and Friday will work fine. Do we want to go up Wednesday night and camp to get an early start Thursday morning?

Just a FYI for you guys. The new JK Wrangler launch is next week. There will be a huge group of the new wranglers running the con from loon lake to the springs on thursday. I would try to avoid that place those days. Oh, and there are fire restrictions in effect now too. No campfires outside of developed camping areas, so no fires on the con. Be sure ot bring your WAG bags too.

I'm okay with doing either. The turn-off to Wrights Lake is closer than the drive to the Rubicon, but you have more of a drive than I do so I'll let you decide.

 We plan on finishing the "con" on Wednesday morning, hiting the cantina in tahoe for lunch, then heading to Barrett Lake Trail head. Thanks, Thursday morning sounds great to us for an overnighter?:speepin: Then Back Friday?I havn't done this trail so I have to do some research.Where is Barrett Lake anyway? It's ok I'll find it.Maybe post a new thread for the B Lake Trip 8/17-18/06.Hope we can make it!!!If you guys have a CB Ch picked please let me know then we could show up late and still hook up.:pirate1:

That sounds good Canyonman - I'm glad you can join us. I'll be on CB channel 16, blue XJ on 35's with snokel. Travis will be driving a contraption that looks like a death-trap... :laugh3: J/K

I have not done the trail either but here are the directions to the trailhead which is at Wrights Lake (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this). After you finish the Rubicon at the Tahoe end, go South on Hwy 89. Merge right onto Hwy 50 and keep going South. You should probably stop in Meyers to gas up as that's the last place with gas before the turn-off. The turn-off is on your right after the small town of Strawberry and before Kyburz.

:eeks1:

More like some kind of jungle gym... The ugly beast won't be painted or otherwise cosmetically finished yet, so expect alot of primer and sharp edges. The easiest identifiers are the faded flourescent green beadlock rings...

I would really like to try and head up Wednesday night, not too late, in case something goes wrong (even though I plan alot of testing Monday and Tuesday). That way, I can get back home (with help if necessary) or get it fixed, and not ruin the trip for everyone else...

I like that idea. Wednesday late afternoon / evening it is. I hate setting up a tent in the dark, so as long as we get there before then I'm a happy camper!

Okay...

It is looking more and more like I will be in the white XJ. I am running into all matter of electrical gremlins, and I don't want to go that far away from home until I am satisfied that I have them taken care of.

Interestingly enough, right now it is the fuel pump that is giving me headaches...

Oh well, this will be a good last run for the little XJ if it comes to that.

Bummer... if only there was a way you could bring both XJs...
