Rubicon June 17 through 19

It is going to take a group of newbies all of two very full days to get through the 'Con, if you don't get lost, break, roll your junk or get caught in complete clusterfawk of a weekend traffic jam.

You are not missing any section of the Rubicon by taking Icehouse all the way to the trailhead.

Cool thanks Andy, hopefully you can show us the way. You're such a seasoned veteran and all. :guitar: So does the trail start in Georgetown, but it is just paved road etc till you get to Icehouse rd?

The Rubicon trail starts at Loon Lake Dam, which is about 30 miles east of Georgetown as the crow flies. The Jeep Jamboree starts in Georgetown so that Mark Smith, organizer of said event, and owner of about half of Georgetown, can sell plenty of beer, food and gas to you before you head out on his trail ride.

That is the ONLY reason that Georgetown is part of the Rubicon legacy.

P.S.......Oh yeah, one more connection, I killed a nice buck on the road between G-town and the 'Con one year.

Does it start in SF?

For me it does. Takes about three and a half hours before I have to air down though. ;)

 Good 1. I know I'm a newbie to the Rubicon. But I want to change that quickly. Yeah, that whole Jeep Jamboree is a huge production and huge $$$ to be a part of it. Have any of you guys gone this route in the beginning? Hopefully you guys (Andy & Jes) can come on the trip. 1 more thing, do you guys know about a Signal Peak trail around the Fordyce trail? Is is really easy or does it have its decent parts? I'm going to try to make this run this Sunday with the Boonie Bouncers club out of Sac. If anyone wants to come, we are meeting at the Newcastle exit (just east of Rocklin) eastbound off of I-80 at 9 and leaving at 9:30.

Signal Peak is pretty mild, but has a great view at the top! A fun run for a shakedown cruise.

I've been fishing or hunting on that stretch of road for about 8 years. It was paved 2 years ago.

U are endless in wisdom, I hope to make your acquaintance shortly :-)
Serious, thanks for answering all my questions Andy.

I skimmed through the last 5 pages and didn't see a definate answer, but are there any real plans for who's leaving town when and who's coming back when? I can leave anytime thursday and it looks like I'll have to leave The 'Con Saturday night. Anybody wanna caravan up?
Billy

I can be up there late thursday after work and need to be back Sunday sometime. Where does everyone want to me up thurs night/friday morning?

OK, I am going to make the plunge: I got almost all the parts in (well except parking brake cables and maybe calipers and front detroit which should arrive in a few days) so I will be running the Con on 4.88's and locked front and rear :D. The downside is that I think the drive up will suck as I will still have 31's.... I kind of ran out of $$ for the tires and rims :D Those will have to wait till the end of summer (the Moab preparation :D)

Sounds good. Yeah, you will be burning some gas on the way to the con, but you should have plenty of gearing with those tires off road. A rear locker makes a huge diff offroad, I did about 2 hrs into Fordyce today with my rear dana 44 with a detroit and climbed over stuff I never would have attempted before. Where do you want to meet on thursday night/friday morning? Some restaurant in Placerville, those who know that town and are coming what is your suggestion? Let's get some specifics down and stick with it so we can all meet and have a great time.

I say we meet at the campground (I think I said before loon lake campground). Thursday night some steaks and beer and then pack it up and meet up with everyone else Fri morning and hit the trail.

I know what you mean about the locker: I moved up from a trac loc into a noslip in my 8.25 and that made a world of difference and now with both ends locked :D it's going to be PARTY TIME! Oh yeah.... I know about the gearing: I originally had 4.11's and 235's! Man that combo rocked on the trail and I was slightly dissapointed when I moved up to 31's (gearing wise). Now I have a feeling that I will be longing for a 4:1 after I go up to 33's.

Btw, I will be bringing two more guys from SoCal with me: Rabbit and MikeyL (they will probably be cussing me out on the way up for slow speed !!).

The staging area below the dam is a good place to meet when you hit the trail.

Billy, how's your jeep coming along? Did you get that front axle figured out yet? How the dd?

The Jeep is gettin' there... all the welding's done (a big thanks to SeanP), now I'm just waiting on a guy that can supposedly make my upper arm work. I'm trying to make the best of my downtime by cutting away some sheet metal. The quarter panels are hacked and the rockers are going to suffer the same fate. The daily driver is alright, but not always the most convenient. Can't beat the mileage though!

Is your dd the pickup from the auction? Is it still driveable? You should get a motorcycle. Cannot beat the gas mileage on that. Man these gas prices are crazy.

Nope, I sold that POS and bought a new set of wheels and even had money left over for an engagement ring. And I get even better mileage than a motorcycle. Here's a pic...
