Hello, Everyone. I am thinking we need a Rubicon trip.YES WE DO! I think After the holiday, would be a good time. Who wants to Wheel RUBICON JULY 7th-July 10th. Thursday-Sunday. Head into Buck island on thursday, and have a free day on friday, or head to a spot on the Rubicon river? Let me know what Everyone thinks?

Traditionally the guidelines are something like:

3" and 31s
One hard locker or two limited slips
Spare shafts for D35s and stock D30s
Spare or aftermarket steering
Tow points on both ends
Full skids - gas, transfer case, rockers
Spare tire

Im probably a maybe on this. Possibly.

3" and 31s -- I'm at 5" on 32's

One hard locker or two limited slips -- rear limited slip, open front

Spare shafts for D35s and stock D30s -- uhhhhh, propbably need to find some

Spare or aftermarket steering -- I have ZJ tie rod upgrade, I built a steering brace for the box, anything else?

Tow points on both ends -- I'm in the process of reinforcing both sides of the front frame where the bumper mounts, so I'll add some recovery to the front
I have a hitch in the rear that should be sufficient for rear recovery?

Full skids gas, transfer case, rockers -- I'm going to be building some sliders, I'll add t-case and gas tank skids too the list, shouldn't be too hard to fabricate

Spare tire -- still in the process of acquiring matching size front tires, so I'll use one of the slightly bald ones as a spare on my 5th wheel

Anything else?

Twin hauler is getting the run together, its not an official run , so he can post whatever MINIMUM requirements he wants. For example , to keep the group moving at some sort of pace, one could require, if one desired so :

2 traction devices preferred, one required
33" minimum tire size
spare parts and tools are a must
No dana 35s
If a dana 30, chromos preferred, spares a must
Will trade years of wheeling experience for min reqs
please try to go above and beyond minimum requirements

Any rig can make it through the con , its not that hard, but if you are in a big group and want to get through at a decent rate, Min reqs are there to keep the group moving along. Less built rigs are ok and wont slow things down if you have years of wheeling experience , and we dont mean fire roads. Less built rigs with little to no driving experience take much much more time. you can have a less built rig and keep up with the pack easily if you know how to wheel.

built rigs still break stuff, it still happens, but the min reqs reduce the probability of breakage by a lot which decreases down time and increases average speed on the trail.

I am thinking what blonde Jon says.

33" minimum tire size

No dana 35s.....

Damn I have a dana 30 but no chromos haha Jon still wheels with me.

LOL they aren't required just highly recommended.Tack the caps and carry spares. shoot, tommy snapped his first 30 shaft at prison hill, it can happen any time, any where. Plus I personally know you, so us doing our own small runs , thats a little different than a all out trip with tons of random people you may not even know and hope to god they have their rig dialed in...

No dana 35 rear axles! dana 30 in the front is just fine, thats what I have; sleeved, locked with chromos. This John will take you in! Come on out!

I would like to do this trip too. It would be my first Con trip.

Alright well I guess I won't be making this run. Everybody wants either a built rig or an experienced driver. Kind of impossible to get the experience if nobody will take you on a run because your rig isn't built, and I'm not gonna go out on a trail I don't know by myself. Thanks anyways, looks like I've got a ways to go.

The wheeling year is young! Tons and tons of trails that can be done with that setup. But even still, proper spares and tools are a must! :patriot:

Oh I know, and I'm appreciative of all the help and advice I get. Looks like I need to save up for axles and lockers.
