RE is out, so what lift to get?

i have a rough country 4.5 inch lift kit and it works fine for me and i didnt spend alot of money on it. im just an average wheeler. so it works for me. when i have the money i would love to step it up to somthing fancier. dirt you never gave a price range you were looking to spend. if you were going to go with r.e. you might want to look at rock crawler or clayton. they both make very nice kits. cal most vendors dont offer alot of those items you suggested. they cost extra and are not included in the kits. but they are very good items to have. its all in how much money you have.

I thought the TJ 231 was not clocked the same way? It may have been the holes on the transmission were clocked differently, but its something you should check on.

we just installed a 231 out of a 2002 tj into my cousins xj. we had to swap a couple small things over, and we had to cut about an inch off of the input shaft, otherwise it fit great.

Is it a $1200 lift kit with no uca's, brake lines or shocks? ;)

nope.. its a 949.95 kit with a NAXJA 10% discount = 854.96. then get the good deaver leaf pack we offer for 675.95. Then you can add the uppers for 206.96.

I ready that Rough Country uses Johnny Joints a lot on the forums... It is not a johnny joint! it is another in a long line on knock offs.

Lots of good info here fellas, Thank you very much. I have some homework to do on what lift to buy but will deff be checking out the RC, Currie, etc... I'd like to stay around $800 if I can, so that Rough Country lift sounds interesting.

Thanks again!

Ill put my short arm against any long arm any day.. Show me a kit that has done what ours has in jeepspeed. Ill be in big bear with my jeep this coming Thursday if you would like to compare. I would be less if you dont use the deaver pack.

How about Full Tractions long arm kit? I have seen quite a few BEASTLY jeepspeed running the full traction kit. Havn't seen a kit yet perform better. I'm not saying curries jeepspeed setup is inferior, I just havn't seen it in action and I can personally vouche for the Full-traction kit. My rig has hit rather high speeds across the dunes and felt very stable doing it. I used to have the full-traction set up in the front with deavers out back. The only weak link that I continuelly bent going fast was the track bar, which Jeeperjohn since fixed for me. I also get outstanding flex on the rocks. Perfect hybrid Jeepspeed/rock crawler set up.

The Currie kit is the winningest kit in jeepspeed history. Three of the last four season was won with Currie off the shelf arms. last season was won with a skyjacker kit fitted with real Currie Johnny Joints. The kit i described was a basic JS/rock crawler starter kit.

Now If you were looking to use a coil over and get a bunch more down travel there would be a benift to a long arm, but you are still limited by the trac bar. In the 10 years+ years JS has been around not one season overall was won using a full traction kit. If you are using a coil in the stock location you will not get more usable travel with a long arm. By usable travel i mean that nothing like coils droping a foot from the upper mount happens.

I run a Rusty’s and the only issue thus far has been the track bar. I’m not running the Hammers, but I don’t baby my rig one bit. I play rough with it, and the Rusty’s takes all I can give it. Just my two cents. The springs are nice.

I would avoid the Rusty's kit. At 4", you want something with uppers and lowers, a trackbar that does NOT use a TRE, front/rear brake lines, and of course springs front and rear.

-A complete kit, everything listed above and more.
-Flex joints in the control arms - if it has a rubber bushing on both ends, walk away. When you articulate, those arms will stress or damage your mounts.
-Leaf springs, not an Add-A-Leaf

http://roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_4x.html - only missing the brake lines, although it goes instead with brake line relocation brackets.

http://dpgoffroad.com/site/REXJhybridkits.htm - only missing upper control arms, but Dirk is pretty good about customizing to meet your needs.

http://rockkrawler.com/?r_intro=1 Ridonkulously expensive, but complete.
Rock Krawler 4.5" Triple Threat Short Arm in case the link doesn't go directly to the kit.

http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merc...=IROR&Product_Code=IR-X55LK&Category_Code=PFX - Complete once you check the box for adjustable arms and SS brake lines.

There's more out there, that's just the ones I felt like looking up. Many vendors offer adjustable control arms, full leaf packs, all the miscellaneous pieces to upgrade your lift or piece together an entire lift using your handpicked parts.

Besides alot of bashing of rustys products (even from me) I have been using their Coils front and rear on my ZJ, along with bilsteins, and love the ride..
