Re-hashing my XJ build for the North Coast

I've basically decided that spending a ton of money chasing vibes that will never go away doesn't make sense, but a TW shaft is a good idea anyway, so it'd be money well spent.

On another note... Went to Reno 2 weeks ago and helped my friend Dillon buy a super clean 2001 Limited xj. We clocked 700 miles in just 2 days lol.

My Dart was freaking awesome on the trip. 33mpg!!

I went to the police academy in Eureka. I took my JK out to the Somoa Dunes a few times while I was there. I remember your dealership always had a line of JKs out front that were already lifted on big tires. Your XJ is looking good. If you ever come down to Mendocino County hit me up, I'll take you up cow mountain.
 
What is that one selling for ? Is it a rubicon ? 40k?
 
That one sold. It was just a sport. It only lasted like... 6 days on the lot. 32K sticker price, and they added 5K for the lift, wheels/tires and the labor to do all of it of course. I talked to the people who bought it, they freaking love it.

In my cherokee world-

Really thinking about going for some 35's. I could go for a set of 315/75/16 Kevlars on my current moabs. Roughly $1500 shipped.... Yikes.

OR- I could get a set of Kevlars in 35's, but on some 15 inch cragars. Even with the price of the 5 wheels and tires, the gy/cragar combo comes into 1400 shipped. haha 16 inch sizes are insane.

The other thing I'm considering... I have always loved the BFG AT... and tire rack is selling them for 1000 (for 5) shipped. That would be the 35/12.50/15. The KO2 will likely replace all of the KO's... but I don't think they are doing any 15 inch sizes.

I have to decide if I really need the MT/r K. I don't get to rock crawl out here unfortunately!
 
My bfg kos have served me well. Not the best in rocks but they do ok. They only measure out to about 33.5" aired up bearing the weight of the vehicle though. So keep that in mind.
 
Consider going with some 17's? Seems that comparable tires sizes between 16 and 17 are typically less in the 17" flavor. Should have kept your JK Moab's haha. Unless you can get them back.
I wanted some 265/75R16's for my TJ Moab's, but I got a set of JK Moab's with my MJ and 265/70R17 are cheaper than the R16's
Even the 285's were a reasonable price. Maybe get a set of the Grabber Red Letters?
 
Just checked tire rack-

315/70/17 Kevlar- $1700 for 5 BEFORE shipping.

315/70/17 AT/ KO- $1344 for 5 before shipping.

Looks like adapters are 99 bucks... a pair. lol

Annnnnddd thats why those rims sit bare in my shed.
 
Yeah. There's about 5-6 at work right now, silver. I can always get more cause we build jk's often. You need some?

So, after doing some tire shopping, I'm not sure if going to 35's is really important to me right now. What I really want is a durable tire I can rely on, that does much better in wet weather than the KM2. For expo-travel, size is not as important as traction, and durability. I don't get to rock crawl here. And 33's took me through the whole rubicon.

I'm thinking I might stick with 33's... No suspension or body mods. No modification of my tire carrier. The obvious benefit of keeping what power I still have with the 4.56's.

Thinking I might buy a set of 285/75/16 GY Kevlars, for my Moabs.

285/70/17 seem to be close in price to 285/75/16
And I found american made sets of (4) wheel adapters on ebay ebay ranging 75-100$ some include a full set of lug nuts.
I may be interested in a 17" JK Moab or 2.. Have a set of 4, and would like a matching spare. I know you are pretty far tho.
Aside from tire rack, also consider discounttire.com and discount direct. they will price match. I think big brand does as well.

Yeah i would stick with the 33s. With 35s you will want at least 4.88 to keep the power back up. Have you looked at general grabbers? They seem like they would do great for what your wanting to do.
 
Nice! You figure out what tires you are getting yet? Are the pre-installed wheel nuts on the synergy adapters 1/2-20 like factory or are they 12mm-1.5?

Also, are you going to keep the TPMS sensors or remove them? It's only one allen head per wheel to take them off the stems.
 
Yep! Kevlars. 285/70/17.

Not sure about that honestly. And yep! I've replaced quite a few valve stems/ sensors at work. Its a torx. I am going to remove them, these were take offs and somehow 2/5 got left with sensors.
 
Tires should be here in the next few days!

Next up- Ditching the C4X4 rear carrier and going for the JCR adventure.

It'll be a shit ton of money all said and done but-
-I'll be able to store 4 gallons of fuel- Good for the long drives we do here
-Higher clearance behind the tail lights
-LED light provisions
-They said I can get the tire mount 5 on 5, from the JK carrier for free, so I can bolt up my new wheels.
-It locks open, something I always wish mine had
-Saving clearance from the integrated hitch
