Question on caster alignment

How much lift do you have?

XJ's should have 5-7 deg of POSITIVE caster.
I have 3"of lift. However the LCA's are 16.25" long with 2-1/4 shims behind them pushing the axel all the way over. I think that if I take the shims out it would be closer to whatt it should be. By-the-way, there werre no shims behind the LCA's when I bought the XJ 40,000 miles ago and it worked fine to me.

Sounds like your pinion angle is a little off.

You can remove those shims one at a time to try and correct or you can just remove the front d-shaft on the street.

Are you running stock uppers? Are you sure you have 3 deg of caster?

Actually now that I think about it, if you truly do have 3 deg of caster your pinion is pointing too high. In which case you would need to add more shims or buy adjustable arms, upper or lower.

I am running stock uppers. The ponion is pointing down away from the TC. I have removed the drive shaft to eliminate vibes on the highway. I had ir rebuilt and balanced lately. It needed a centering kit replacement. I have not put it back on since. (1 in 3 XJ here in Miami are not 4X4 :) )
