Portable toilet

being in iraq for 14 months, DONT BURN YOUR OWN FECES!!!!!! IT STINKS AND CAUSES A MAJOR MESS AND CAN MAKE YOU SICK!!!

what we did, in case we didnt have any type of john....go get a metal folding chair, use your handy dandy sawzall and cut a hole outta the middle, then superglue the hell out of a toilet seat down.

dig a hole beneath the rungs, or rig up a baggy w/ bungy cords and theres your field expedient sanitary porta poty (without the major smell:D)

So the 1 at Big 5 sporting goods without the super glue and big toilet seat. :D

hey, it cant be biohazardous since people can put doggy poo in a bag and throw it away. dogs eat the same stuff we do, our digestive tracts break things down the same. just my 3 cents.

Human waste can contain many disease causing agents that affect humans. Animal feces while unclean, don't transmit things like Hepatitis. So dog feces may not be a biohazard, but untreated human feces most definately is.

I can't find the paper I wrote it down on

Did you look in the toilet :)

Was all set to 'doo' my part, but the PET bags are backordered from cabella's and sportsmans..says 2 to 3 weeks.. if not longer. I"m not gonna buy these, on the off chance someone happens to have some bags, ya know? Not a lot of room in the heep as it is. As they're not likely to be here before I take off. if someone knows of another source that can mail me the bags before the colorado portion (7 august, for me) let me know by pvt message and I'll bring along a portable toilet/bags/tent.

The local REI sells them for $2.50 each. Take that as you will. :flamemad:

Nod, did a better search on the 'net and found another supply. ordered the tent/portapotty and 12 bags..I might be full of crap, but I hope not 100 bags worth at 200.00 :P. Now, if I can just get the trail leader to stop long enough to use it... uses the wag bag system with the PETT toilet...hope that helps out the logistics problem.. :pig:

So who is this great internet supplier? I was looking into ordering from Sportsman's Guide but haven't yet.

Well hope you get to come back home soon and doing some wheeling. Do you hang with the NW chapter as well? You are more than welcome here too. I like WA, it is so green and has lots of nice mud trails with trees, some rocks mixed in.

yea i hang with ecksjay and a few of the other guys....i just kinda bounce all over the place....military tends to toss ya all over

Guys (and gals),

I believe this discussion is based around sanitation on the Rubicon Trail. Sure in other areas you can dig a hole, or crap behind a log and just leave it, but not anymore on the 'Con. Now you must "pack it out", literally. I guess if you choose to carry it around in a paper bag, go ahead as long as you take it with you. :dunce:

People not "packing it out" has led to a closure of Spider Lake for the rest of the year.

Is it defiantly closed for the rest of the year? I know a lot of people were up there cleaning up other peoples mess this weekend. I’ve never been (largely because of the story’s I hear about what goes on up there. Not my idea of fun.) but is there some reason there are not outhouses like other high use public land spots?

From what I hear yes Spider Lake is closed for camping for the rest of the season. They can't do outhouses or permanent toilets, due to the terrain, lack of maintenance, and vandalism. Check the Rubicon board over at the Pirate 4x4 site as well as Del Albrights FOTR site for more info.
