If using the WJ housing with XJ shafts make sure you run the JKS wheel bearing spacers to keep the u-joints in line with the ball joints. That axle uses CV joints and has a different offset.

I should have specified I am not using the housing as it is a low pinion. Just the knuckles and a few other parts off of it which does require the jks spacer. Thanks for lookin out!

Dana 30 Yukon Zip Locker:
RWKHaus: $725 + shipping +tax +compressor
DavesOffroad: $805 shipped including tax AND a free compressor if I order by 9/30/15

Ummm my Zip is $725 total shipped to your door. Show me a total by daves that has a compressor and a zip to your door for $805. and I would be Overly surprised.

What I will do is give you the Zip and compressor for $830 shipped.

We worked out a deal for a zip and compressor to my door for significantly less than $800 shipped to my door. It was some promo deal he had going on.

So are your ten factory shafts $500 shipped or $500 plus shipping? Your quote you gave me did not include shipping, nor tax.

Just need to find the right vendor. RWKHaus sounds kinda sketchy and I'm afraid he won't be selling me true ten factory shafts, but instead his blank 1 year warranty shafts but with a 10 year warranty.

Sketchy huh? Nothing I do is sketchy. Reason why Currie recommends people to me as well as Yukon and others. I tell you how it is. No black smoke. You see it on a electronic invoice exactly what if offered. If you like it then thats is what you get, exactly. Never has it ever been different, in 8 + years now as a company.

Now ECGS, they are "Sketchy" selling "Yukon" name gears in white boxes, etc..

And FYI, the Yukon shafts are the USA Standard Shafts and are the Ten Factory shaft, etc. There are 2 Major true manufacture of the d30/44 OD shafts, that EVERYONE boxes in their own box, Like Ten Factory, Yukon, Nitro, USA Standard, G2... NONE of them "Make" their own shafts, None... And you never really know which manufacture shafts are in your box really. And they typically cant keep up with demand and company randomly purchase from both typically.

It is fun reading all the banter here though and seeing how much mis information is still out there... :-)

that's a hell of a bomb to drop! my buddy ordered 2 Yukon stub shafts for D44 through summit and twisted both of them in a perfectly clean break right behind the ujoint ear. he's only running 35's and not wheeling hard. he ordered 10 factories and was assured they were much better than Yukon, and you're telling me they're exactly the same? he's gon be pissssed :roflmao:

does that only go for 4340? who are the mystery manufactures

Robert, thanks for the information but you really shouldn't be trying to sell parts in the open forums like this. Arguing over the some other shop beating your price doesn't look very good for you.

kevin, did you get a 27 or 30 spline zip?
i run a 30 spline arb & ten factory shafts that i bought from national drivetrain.
i broke one of the stub shafts & they overnighted me a free replacement.
killer waranty service from them!

I got the 27 spline because everybody but my roommate told me to go with 27 spline. I can still change my mind, but the masses recommend 27.

Tim, what gearset were you running when you broke the shaft? I'd assume the stub shaft is the same as the 27 spline and that only the inners are different. Is that true?

Didn't u break the 30 spline arb too Tim?

Also.. The jks spacer is needed for the knuckle swap and ujoint alignment. FJO has the best price I've seen around.

Nice find bud! You might have to trim the tie rods or dl depending how much adjustment he left you. But can't say 10%...
I have 1.5" wheel spacers and it clears my 15" rims by about 1/4"-3/8" with the offset rod ends.
The knuckles actually bring the tie rod a C hair closer to the axle too.

Interesting facts. I believe that they all originate from the same 2 factories, but I can't imagine they are all made to the exact same specifications.

If you can assure me that I will be getting true ten factory shafts, in a ten factory box, with a ten factory part number stamped in them, and a ten year warranty backed up by ten factory, shipped to my door for $500 I will gladly buy them from you. But if they are just going to be "any other shaft because they are all the same" then I will purchase from a vendor who can assure me that I am actually buying the same shafts they are selling me.

Not trying to be a dick or stir stuff up or anything. It's just that a lot of the claims you are making don't seem to match other information I have been getting from friends with first hand experience.

they make 30 spline outers and 30 spline unit bearings, or at least so I thought

Great kevin look what you just did

Great kevin look what you just did

Lol what did I do??!!?

I figure I'll keep a rolling tally of what I purchase for this rebuild. For my own sake, and so you guys know how deep I dig myself into a hole.

WJ axle complete with diff cover, tie rod, brakes and brackets - $100
Synergy WJ ball joints all around - $free
2001 XJ/TJ Timken unit bearings (Amazon) - $149.82
JKS knuckle spacer (Amazon) (JFO was out of stock) - $47.02

What brake rotors did my fellow WJ swap friends use? I don't believe this axle has the akebono calipers, but rather the older style. It will have to do for now though - if I want to upgrade later i will. But I'd assume the rotors are the same between the new and old style calipers? Anyways, I've heard rumors of crown Vic rotors. What did you guys use or what do you recommend? (Pat? Jon?)

What year is it from? Teves don't necessarily suck... it's just Akebono is the better option. I got rebuilt Akebonos. Slotted drilled rotors and ceramic pads for 195 shipped summit racing. Power Stop brand... No issue thus far and holy shit you'll love the braking... no brake dust all over the rim I think I went with the z36 pad

and they came powdercoated in a badddddasssss ferrari red color so people know I have some badass mofo brakes bruh

i was able to kill timken unit bearings just as fast as the el cheapo ones on amazon, so they are what i buy now. i think they were under $40 each shipped.

i subscribe to the gordo-smasho driving style, & yes, i did grenade the 30 spine arb carrier, as well as a couple sets of 4.88's.
i think the 30 spline is stronger than the 27 spline. makes sense, right?
only benefit to using 27 spline is cheap trail spares.

You could always use the calipers as cores towards some centric reman akebono calipers. SInce you know what you are doing when it comes to fab. Just pick up some centric premium WJ rotors, and drill them for 5x4.5 OR, I think black magic might offer them in a dual drilled setup already.
