UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!

No tech though. Just a wheeling trip

Wheeled the Rubicon again this past weekend for my friend Joes birthday. Did some last minute stuff before the trip which was rough. Both front axle shafts were shot so I went to pick n pull between classes on Tuesday to grab spare shafts. Pulled em but the ujoints were bad. Went to replace them but holy crap they were rusted in there bad. Bent one of the ears on one shaft to get the joint out and couldn't get the new ujoint in. So I decided to use some extra force to get the ujoint out on the other shaft. Brought it to the machine shop on campus and used their huge press there to push it out. Got 10 tons of force on it and it didn't budge.

Just bent the ear on that shaft too. 2 hours and a parking ticket later, I decided to run back to pick n pull and pulled two new shafts, slapped them in and was rubicon bound by 6 or 7pm. Left the trail head at 10ish or later. My buddy had his fuel pump wiring come loose and left us scratching our heads for a few hours. Had a yj in or group get stuck, and then I broke a main leaf (#3) at the very bottom of the bowl. Set up camp on the top of the bowl for the night, had a buddy bring up my spare leaf (which I left at home) and fixed it the next day.

Wheeled to soup bowl the next day. Here's a pic from phone booth.

Then Sunday morning the group left but my girlfriend and I stayed behind for the day. We went to spider and threw my hammock up between a few trees that overlooked the lake and hung out for a few hours.

Then a storm rolled in so we packed up and wheeled out in a nice rain/hail/snow/wind storm. It was freaking awesome.

And we were off.

Freaking fantastic trip despite the breakage. Crazy weather but it was a good mix of warm and cold.

In other news, nothing new has been done and there's been no progress on building the Jeep. I got an internship at a Mechanical Engineering firm here in Sacramento, and between my new work schedule, my school schedule, and spending time with friends, I have very little time to work on the jeep. The Ranger is torn apart in the garage with the motor out of it and torn down to the block, pistons and crank. Working on the head gaskets with what little time I have. Once that's done, I have some work to do on the S10 and then it'll be time for the jeep. The build plans will probably be dumbed down a bit from what they were, but we will see.

Anyways. I think that's all. I'm itching to go wheel again already so hopefully ill get to work sooner than later!

I love adventures on trips. It makes it a more memorable trip.

Forgot about this thread. Glad you guys enjoy the stories.

Twin hauler, they are rubicon express 4.5" springs from when they were still made in the good ole USA.

I need bump stops that work.

Picked up some Corbeau Baja SS seats yesterday for a song. They're like new. Used to be in my buddies race truck which rarely made it out of the garage. Ignore the asbestos on them. Got the ceilings scraped.

Going to run a cage mounted remote head rest pad and should be ordering crow harness pads relatively soon.

My old suspension seats will be for sale shortly for $300 firm if anybody is interested. I'll post em in the for sale thread when they corbeaus are in.

Zac, I don't have any plans right now, but then again I don't really ever make plans haha. The seats aren't ready to be sold just yet, but as soon as they're good to go, I'll let you know and see when ill be in town next.

I'm itching to fab something so bad right now. I need to get to work.

I've got some things for you to fab... Lol but then again I know you have three vehicles that need work done on them. Haha

Finally got some time and motivation to build some shenanagins. Rear bump stops were the ticket.

Bought some parts today...

Took the spring plates and built a bumpstop off of it.

The bumps I'm using are progressive energy suspension bumps. Size is 4.75"Lx2.5"Wx2.75"H.

It all starts with cardboard.

Cut er out along with some bottom side bracing.

Tacked together

Bottom side bracing

Burned it all in and it's hanging in a tree letting the paint dry right now. Then I gotsa install em.

Next on the list is seen in the first picture. I'm going to cut up that frame side panhard mount and make it my own so I can rock the track bar in double shear like the big boys.

The joints shown are Ruffstuff 7/8" hiems. Got my old 5/8" hiems replaced under warranty and they upgraded me to 7/8" for free. I just had to buy the bungs. So installing those is somewhere on my list too.

My big plans have been shot down for now. Just trying to get the thing wheelable since the season has already started and I'm missing out on trips left and right.

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll stop breaking main leafs now haha

Today I rolled my roommates 37" MTRs up next to the jeep. Looks sick and is giving me bad ideas...

Thoughts? Haha

Im going to buy a new steering box. Looking into the J20 big bore conversion. I'd buy a reman 85 or so big bore J20 box. looks like a fixed 4 turn ratio, bigger bore, and 4 bolts. Going to tap it for hydro assist and run plugs until I get a ram. Also going to buy a new pump and drill the fitting for more flow. Should be a solid setup - even more so whenever I get a ram and mount it. Any thoughts on this?
