Coca Cola will do the same thing, if not more.. Haha.

Backing up a few posts you were asking about electrolysis to remove rust.
I haven't tried it but I found something that works well enough for me. Take a five gallon bucket (or any container big enough for the part) and drop your parts in it. Now go to the grocery store and buy 4 gallons of White Vinegar, about $15. Dump it over the parts, scrub for a few minutes, let it soak. Scrub a little, let it soak.
The vinegar will eat the rust right off a knuckle. Scrubbing just speeds it up, allowing the vinegar to penetrate easier / faster. Worked wonders on a D30 knuckle I had laying around.

Are these the ball joints you are looking for?

yep those are the joints I want, but for a ford HP44. Cant seem to find them.

Im going to try that 5 gallon bucket idea, but I'm going to to try it with coke a cola like JW suggested. Im more curious than anything else. I've heard of coke dissolving chicken bones and stuff so it'll be fun to see what it does to the knuckles lol

I've seen it make old crusty pennies look like they came from the factory. Leave the penny in it long enough at it will eat it away.

If I remember junior high science experiment correctly, it's either the darker or clear soda that cleans he best

Dark

Well my 44 spindles are toast. This is the worst side if the worst one. Where's a good place to get replacements? I was really hoping these guys would be fine but no dice.

talk to robert at rwkhaus. he had a good price for me on some yukons. otherwise toms bronco graveyard, wild horses, ebay, amazon.

don't throw those away, keep them for trail spares. broken stubs can lead to broken spindles

Thanks Jon, Im going to call/look around. Spending money on spindles is the last thing I wanted to do lol.

In other news, I pulled the drivers side knuckle off yesterday, welded nuts to each of the studs and backed them out of the knuckle. Now all I have to do it clean them up, slap new ball joints in them, and bolt on the high steer arms and I'm set there.

Passenger side knuckle is off to parts mike for high steer machining. I should have it back by monday.

So I'm slowly plugging away at this bad boy. Slowly but surely.

ya adding new spindles to my 44 on top of new lockouts and hubs and rotors and pads and ball joints and chromos pissed me off since I could have just slapped new gears in my dana 30 and then built a 60 and had money to spare.

I got super lucky with my 44, ball joints, spindles, hubs, even brake pads were all good. The axle cost me $150 and another $100 in brackets to get it under my rig. Spent $500 on chromos after I broke the long side inner. Even still I should have held out for a 60, but I could probably sell the 44 for about what I got in it at this point.

I think ill end up being happy with the 44.. I'm more excited about the locking hubs than anything actually.

I cleaned up the knuckle I have with me and painted it and my 44 diff cover. Should I paint the knuckle? I've seen people do orange to mimic REID knuckles. Trying to decide between orange, red like my steering, or a simple black. Thoughts?

Orange = win. Get the brightest orange you can, maybe even flourescent?

Black.

X2 on the black. I actually painted my Reid knuckles black :)

Just hit a deer.

I've never seen a deer fly that far before haha. Flew higher than my jeep and across a lane and a half onto the sidewalk.

Anyways. I need a new front clip, grill, headlight, condenser, radiator, clutch fan shroud. That's all I know so far. Anybody have any of those laying around?

Ah man that sucks. I might have rad, condenser, and fans depending on what happens with my insurance from an accident a couple months ago. Could be total loss and I'll buy it back for parts. Should know in a few days. Radiator is all metal 2 core.

Where were you?! Poor dear and poor jeep
