when 4x4 doesn't work right... you get one open, and 3 closed.

what a model lol

and that concludes this amazing wheeling trip. now time for me to go tear down some stuff as well as you bud haha especially that bell housing :repair: . thanks for a good last "dry" wheeling trip party1:

hope you all enjoy the pics

Awesome Pictures man. looks like you had a fun time.

In his defense it was slick....but i got strapped out in a stupider spot lucky without pics haha.

This is obviously photoshopped. That tow strap is way too clean to belong to a toyota driver. Plus, the lines are too crisp and don't even line up or something like that. Obviously a chop. Never happened.

If you ever go manual, wait to find an external slave one from a 94+ one. Internal slaves suck, had to replace mine once. Not thrilled to think about doing it again.

Wow, I totally misread your post, my apology. I'd say snag it and pick a running ax15 out of jeep or Dakota and swap bell housings. Driving is so much more fun with a manual, though not too sure about wheeling one yet.

Kevin how was the weather when you where there?

He already has a manual. He has now broken his second bellhousing. Trying to find him a new one. And figure out why they have broken so he doesn't break another one

Gordon thank you so much for scrounging craigslist for me. I really appreciate it! I shot that guy an email and it sounds like he hacked it up a bit so he could stuff it behind a diesel that had an oil filter-to-bellhousing clearance problem. Said he cut a chunk out so it would clear the filter, and said "but you can weld it back together" haha. I told him at that point I should just weld up my current housing or the one on my sideyard. Oh well lol. Thanks a bunch for keeping an eye out for me though.

And Jon, the weather was very nice. Cant remember for sure how cold it got at night, but IIRC it was very high 20s maybe 30ish. During the day was t-shirt weather (for me atleast) if I was running around taking pictures, but I threw the jacket on once I was just standing around. Crisp, but nice.

Llama, will a dakota bell housing bolt up to an AX-15 and 4.0?

how much is an aluminum gun for your mig and a spool to weld aluminum? is that all you need to weld it up? perhaps you could weld up the old one, and plate and gusset it with aluminum.

i almost want to take that manuel gordo and put it in mine haha. that would be too much work though. less money for more parts

I was talking to goodwill, somehow missed the page of comments before mine posted cause I fail at the Internet :laugh3:

Jeep450 be sure to check eBay for one if you haven't. I see them there sometimes, just haven't had a reason to pick one up yet.

Jon, not a bad idea... not sure if id trust myself welding aluminum though. And I think id need a 100% argon tank

Does anybody know what year jeeps began coming out with the external slave version of the AX-15, rather than the internal slave?

Nevermind, they switched to external slave in 94.

Shoot, Gordon once again thanks a bunch for keeping an eye out for me. But unfortunately that one is an AX5 transmission. From what I hear, the AX5 and AX15 transmissions have a different bellhousing with a different bolt pattern as well as different lengths/depths. So it looks like that one won't work for my application, but I sure do appreciate you looking for one and even contacting the owner about it!

So I have today off of school and being a fantastic student I decided to start dropping my transmission, rather than doing homework. I have about an hour and a half into it and the trans is almost ready to drop. Unfortunately I do not have the tools here to finish the rest.

I need a sawsall to cut my exhaust off.
I need an E-12 external torx bit for the upper two bellhousing bolts (silly Chrysler engineers).
I need a big ratchet strap to help lower the trans
And lastly I need a floor jack.

Gonna call a few buddies and see if I can find these and if I'm lucky I might make more progress today.

you could call summit or jegs to see if they have an aftermarket steel bellhousing. lakewood perhaps makes one.
