My "Hero" Blog

Im running dodge van leafs now. They just dont have alot of free arch. I have a spare set of the same leafs actually. I have a buddy who is interested in these leafs already. He is aiming for 1" or less lift and running 33x12.5s so these will likely be perfect for his application.

Ranch does indeed. It looks like a pretty nice pack. 4leaf with a full length 2nd leaf. Its the full pack option for there 2.5" lift kit.

Im looking a bit more at ome leafs. They seem to be the go to low lift leafs. They make alot of different combos of light medium and heavy duty all under 3.5"s of lift.

Good to know Gordo. Thanks. Not sure I'll be needing them though. Just put my new springs in and it's not that bad. A bit high for my liking but I haven't even driven it to let them settle.

Waiting on some Ruffstuff 5/8" U-bolts to come in before I drive it.

New power steering hose came in yesterday. That is tomorrow's task, along with torqueing everything on my jeep and checking/filling diff fluid and other odds and ends.

Then I'm hoping to build some bumpstop extensions for some poly bumpstops I have coming in the mail from summit. Most likely a temporary setup though. I hate doing things last minute like this but it seems to be the only way I get things done nowadays.

Let's see what I get done tomorrow

Welp, I wheeled the Rubicon cantina weekend. Went in loon to spider, back out to loon, back to spider, and then back out loon. 90% of the wheeling was night wheeling. Best trip to date.

I got some pretty good body damage though. Nailed the passenger quarter panel on some random rock and then the drivers side rear door on soup bowl. She used to be so clean... Oh well.

Aaaaand just another random shot from a place we call "Heaven" in Folsom.

Again guys, sorry for the crappy iphone/Instagram pictures. I don't have a working computer right now to hook my DSLR up to.

Haven't been driving it much due to hardcore death wobble again. Got the wobbles on 880 and had to lock up the tires to stop. Put a new steering box in thinking the sector shaft bearing was the problem. Nope. Almost feels like it's worse now.

Any idea what the torque spec is for the pitman arm bolt?

And does anybody know where to find LCA caster shims?

Not sure what I'm going to do next. Gotta get this thing driveable so I can take it hunting this weekend.

cracked frame or bad heims. or tires. ball joints. bushings. TREs

Hey Kevin, how do you like your tires? Wear, grip, road noise, balance problems? I have a chance to get a pair almost new for cheap.

Those tires are dirt cheap brand new. Like 600 mounted and balanced. I've seen them on CL from some shop for days. And looked into them when I was in need of new 33s

I hate dealing with dw. Good luck mang the list goes on and on. Double check the hubs and torque it all.

I replace RS heims alot. My money is track bar related. mounts or heims. make sure you are not ripping off the frame.

I know they are cheap, I am looking at a pair for about $150 that basically just rubbed the nubs off the tread.

Ruffstuff heims are definitely consumables. I've gone through a bunch of them, but they have never been the root of my death wobble.

With that said, I'll double check them tomorrow for abnormal play. The track bar heims were replaced a season ago and should still be good.

Ball joints have maybe 10 months on them, most of which the jeep sat in the garage with the transmission on the ground. So those should be good.

Steering box is good
Frame side track bar is tight
I wasn't able to find any frame cracks during my last bellhousing swap but I'll check again tomorrow.

Going to go through everything tomorrow to see what I can find.

Casey I like them. Loud on the road but they hook up fantastic off road. Super sticky compound.

do you have anyone who can turn your steering wheel while you watch for where the movement is? you'll find the problem if there is one

I've done this numerous times, but can never find anything loose.

But I've been thinking about this a bit and I got this most recent death wobble after I put new springs in the rear, lifting the rear some from where it was, which ended up increasing my caster. I'm thinking that if I can pull the caster back a bit, that might help.

I'll probably check the dealer for the shims. Picknpull in the rain today sounds like a blast haha

lol. it usually works for me. I'll lay under the front and then I get to see which part of my frame is moving today

lift height increased in the rear adds enough to free up a DW issue? I'd probably check the caster angle before I went looking for shims
idk dude. we all know it's a huge pain in the ass diagnosing this crap. hope it gets fixed

I'd still double check with someone turning your steering wheel. can't hurt

whats caster and toe set at? lose any wheel weights?

Well I wheeled the con all the way through the other weekend. In loon. Out Tahoe.

Now the front end is sounding horrible and popping a lot. Gonna pull the box off the frame and check it out. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.

Gas tank is leaking. If I drop the tank I might just replace the fuel pump while I'm at it for preventative maintenance. Any recommendations for a good pump?

Also my power steering pump #3 is taking a dump on me. Not going to replace it under warranty again. Getting tired of replacing it lol. Any recommendations for a new one? PSC looks nice but is way pricier than I expected.

And as far as death wobble goes, it's still there. Caster is at 6* positive. I'll check toe stat. Going to replace every bushing in the front suspension ASAP. I'm getting tired of fighting this and might just do a budget hydro assist setup to get it to stop.

Also, quarter panel armor and tail light boxes are up there on the priority list. My passenger side quarter has been taking a beating! Front frame plating and steering box bracing is next on the list (or maybe even before).

Anyways. That's the latest. Any input on the above would be fantastic and thanks to those of you who have been helping me track down this death wobble. We will figure it out eventually.

As far as fuel pumps are concerned bosch first delphi second and thats it.

Id have someone turn the wheel for you And put your hands on some of the steering components. Make sure that you have them stand on the breaks while turning. It puts more stress on everything. If everything is tight then its got to be tires or alignment.

If your frame is cracked around your box that could be the cause of your death wobble. Also it will get increasingly worse
