My "Hero" Blog

get a heat pack on that back and relax then man.

Back is still giving me problems. Can't even ride my freaking bike to school anymore because of it.

But my buddy Dylan just came over and went to town on it. It's not coming out. Pulling the motor on Friday and sending it out to let a machine shop work their magic for me.

new motor?
from where?

No I pulled the motor out so I can bring it in to a machine shop to have the bolt drilled out/extracted. But now that I have it out, I may be able to dremel it out a bit and then run a drill through it and stick a heli-coil in it. There's no way I could have even tried that with the motor in the jeep.

wow man. thats totally messed up .

how is your back?

Thanks man!

Jon, my back is a teeny tiny bit better. I loaded up on Advil when I pulled the engine. Had to help lift the cherry picker back into my buddies truck last night and my back didn't enjoy that one bit. But it's whatever. As long as I can successfully roll out of bed in the morning, then ill survive. After all, pain is weakness leaving the body, right?

I figure I could share some news here too.

I was offered (yes, I accepted) a summer internship at one of the Bay Area's largest steel fabrication and specialized construction companies as an Assistant Project Manager. They hired me on full time, with a killer schedule and very very generous hourly pay. Needless to say, I'm VERY excited.

With that said, the jeep should be treated very well this summer (aside from beating it on the trail, of course). I'm also considering building another rig. I've been wanting to pick up a tube roller and a TIG welder and go at another cage again for a while now too. I've been playing around with the ideas of building a Comanche using the full widths I have, another 4dr or 2dr cherokee (on fullwidths), a ford ranger (full width), or sell the fool widths and build a samurai or a 4 door suzuki sidekick on yota axles (all budget builds). The sole purpose of my next rig will be to beat the piss out of it, which should allow me to keep my current XJ somewhat clean. Fordyce is soon to become a regular trail and I just can't get myself to thrash my current XJ out there.

Anyway, that's the latest on me. Schools is out for the summer in two weeks, and once the XJ is back together, I'll likely be on the search for a new project.

Duuude congrats! thats awesome man.

congrats on the job man! I say build a manche, ranger, or cherokee again. my buddy just got finished with his samurai buggy on yota axles and it's still gutless and too small for being a good weekend rig. it really needs an engine swap

rangers are a little long in the WB, but I've always loved them. you'll be at an advantage with the real frame too

long bed MJ for the win

Thanks guys!

As far as the new build goes, I'm leaning towards a cherokee or a comanche, simply because I already have a good chunk of the parts needed to get the build started and it's a platform I already know. A buddy of mine has a built sidekick (a geo would be sick too!) on 36" iroks and it straight up works. Dual cases, ARB's front and rear, longfields, and no power to break anything haha, so that's pretty tempting, but I like the size and wheelbase of the cherokee. Idk, decisions, decisions...

if you a re going to go with one of those gutless little things, just get a XJ or MJ with a 4cyl, and stroke the 4cylinder

Well I finally got the bolt out! Thanks to a metal cutting/grinding bit on a dremel. Ground the whole thing out. Now to find a helicoil and slap er in there!
