My front frame hack up and rebuild

no real progress, grinded on some pieces i made for the motor mount crossmember, hunted down my poly bushings and link tabs, took gas tank out pressure washed it and threw it in the back, took a minute to get the damn fill hoses and neck out. Cut out the gussets to go under the 2x4 to the plate so that will be braced some.

Still got to wait for my headers to show up and link stuff from ballistic fab so i can actually do something.

I guess tomorrow i will start cutting off the radius arm brackets and start mapping out a new transmission crossmember.

so my headers showed up saturday afternoon, still nothing from ballistic for the links so today the cherry picker got taken off the motor.

got plenty of room in there now. Still have to finish welding everything...

no matter how you are building this thing, and no matter what anyone says, this thing is goin to be sick as hell.

keep it up dude

Yep, its goin to be interesting to say the least. Im hoping maybe with enough power and the low gears from the rockwells that maybe it will be able to pull the tires off the ground. I dont know if i have enough stall tho... would be cool to do it just once.

and it looks like exhaust routing on the driver side could get fun, wondering about driveshaft clearance.... might have to nascar this bitch-- meaning having the exhaust turn out and go down the outside of the frame and turn out under the doors??

I need to call tom woods and inquire about a 1410 driveshaft price after i make a few measurements....

if nothing else you will have some cash in this rig you are getting some nice stuf for it.

yea i got some money in it, but all this stuff other than the axles i already had. I just move stuff around from vehicle to vehicle. If i tear this thing up too bad one day i will just have to build me a chevrolet truck with all the junk off of my jeep.

So i got a little done. Made some coil brackets to come off the frame. Mocked the springs up, made a 2" spacer to go under the lower spring mount so i will have some up travel, only had 3" up travel at the center so i'm hoping adding the 2" spacer on the axle will get me more around 5". Next is to work on tracbar/mount cuz when i tried to set the weight down on the coils the body started shifting over to the pass side. But i guess i should actually wait till i get the front suspension links made and on there... Damn ballistic fabrication slower than christmas. Called wednesday and they said they would ship today, called friday and they said it will go out today, so i told them to put my shit in a box and fuckin send whatever they have on hand. Bastards...

them are some nice welds!!

i thought i did pretty good on those, but the V shaped pieces that are on the bottom of the frame that the motor mount crossmember is welded to, well that is another story. They look like booger welds but only on the outside driverside, I think my wire had gotten some moisture on it and after i used some of it it was fine....

Oh and ballistic did ship some of my stuff tonite! So yay on that. I should be working on the links next weekend!!!

so i got my bungs, ballistic joint and rockwell link mounting surface plate the other day. Will start building links and putting them together tomorrow and the rest of the weekend.

I enjoy watching your train wreck being constructed just as much as anyone else here, but I don't want to see anyone hurt, including you. I implore you not to crawl under that thing. The balance point for an XJ is just about where you have the front jackstands with the engine in it. You don't have the engine in it, but This still means that nearly the half weight of the jeep is resting on a very very very substandard support. If you insist on using cinder blocks, please at least turn them in a correct load bearing orientation and put a load spreader across the top. I would hate to see what could happen if you accidentally knock something into those blocks (shatter and crumble) or the jeep rocks and the shifting pressure on the cinder block causes failure.

Please don't kill yourself because you think you know better. Just because it hasn't fallen yet doesn't mean it can't or won't.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!:roflmao: Get 'em Burbon! :D I check in on this thread from time to time and it gets more ridiculous every time!

i'm glad i can bring some humor into ya'lls lives. I'll be building my links and stuff tomorrow and this weekend...

I gotta give it to ya man, ALOT of people have been busting your chops about your build but you just continue on and go about your work. I commend you for that. It's not my idea I'd do for mine but I'm sure it's going to function all the same in the end kudos man

X2 and AGREED! You are doing something few if any have done. BB and 2.5 tons. I have seen maybe 2 xj's in the last 6 years or so that have had Rock's.
