MWC Unofficial Wheeling Trip-Hannibal Rocks ORP August 14/15th

Looks like it will be hot there guys.
Today in Eastern Iowa its...
89°F

Feels Like: 106°
Details: dangerous heat index. Outdoor exposure should be limited.

Just got back from driving the M38A1 around and we were dripping with sweat when we got home.
The forecast for Hannibal on Saturday is 96.
Boy that indoor pool at the hotel is gonna feel so good.

Any updates on a possible meet n eat Saturday night after wheeling?

Who all is camping? Are all the camping people staying at Injun Joe's?

Planning to call and make my reservation tomorrow.

And thanks to BOB for bringing it up to me... I'm bringing the fryer and he'll supply the bird and we'll have some deep fried turkey Saturday night. :D

Hmm it looks like the address I posted before for the campground may not be correct, does anyone know for sure what it is? The Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau listed it as 14193 Clemens Dr., Hannibal, MO and the phone as (573) 985-3581. I figure if the town itself doesn't have the correct info, nobody does.

Camille and I are camping for sure, JR and Kelli are still not sure due to the heat. They did tell me to reserve a spot for them regardless b/c they need a place to park their trailer and Jeep over night. I am thinking that Curt and Brenda, BOB and Dawn, Austin and his Dad are all for sure staying in hotels. I am not sure what Craig and Stacys plans are. I am staying at Injun Joes Friday and Saturday nights and will be bringing my swimsuit for sure (maybe a thong, maybe not :dunno: ) We are anticipating arriving between 6-7:30. Could be earlier on either side of that.

The real question is..to bring teh nacho machine or not??? Now that is the question!

Cheese "almost too hot for nachos" Man

That sounds right... There is also an outdoor pool at the hotel Bob and I are staying at that we can use if the one at Joe's is 'icky'... I still plan on bringing at least 2lbs of bacon cheese... we can throw that on some bread with that turkey :)

Brad, what time u think u all will show up Friday?

Curt, have not got anything set up yet for Saturday night, but it may be so hot that we want to hit a nice air conditioned place that serves cold beer!! We are talking about doing a turkey in the fryer Saturday night, but it may be just too damn hot to cook outside.

But if I know the MWC members, we will still eat a fried turkey even if we cook it at midnight..we are a bunch of drunken chow hounds...or so I have been told. :D

I think Craig and Stacey will probably stay at a hotel, she does not seem keen on camping anymore. :D Craig has to work Friday and we were planning on convoying it down there, so it could be 9-10pm Central before we get there depending on when he can leave. Maybe earlier if he can skip out early.

Yea it may be too hot for nachos and cheese or a fried turkey, but we are the MWC and just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean we won't do it!

I am good with hitting up a local spot to grab some dinner and a few brews.

Which hotel and how much per night? Aaron is crying about how hot it's going to be and wants to get a hotel now.

in all honesty, I am game to not have to cook shit and just eat out for breakfest and supper and eat lunch on the trail. Less cooking while it is so freakin hot and less to pack along as far as nacho machine, turkey cooker etc. I love the food, but not sure if it is worth it this short of a trip. I will check with a local Hannibal buddy and see if he has any suggestions for a place that can handle about 15-20 people. I am going to try and call in the morning for reservations, so if you want to camp by each other Brad I can see what they have availabe for spots for at least 3 that are next to each other. PM me your digits.

Not short on miles for me, but yea it still is a weekend run. I'm really fine with whatever, if we wanna save the turkeys and cheese for another run that's OK with me. I'm bringing Aaron and a local buddy and now we're considering getting a hotel just to enjoy some A/C at night if it's going to be so hot out. I've got Aaron as a designated driver so I can still get my fill at the campground festivities. :D

So yea, if anyone knows the popular hotel and the nightly rate then I'll decide whether we're camping or going to a hotel. Also does anyone know if this hotel would be OK with a trailer being parked out there? May want to drop it off and bring just the truck back. Otherwise leaving the trailer out at the campground may not be a bad idea. If they stick you out in the back of the campground then maybe they won't notice. :)

look back a page or 2, BOB or Austin posted up the hotel info for Super 8 I believe it was.

You would understand if you were a fat kid.

hell, maybe I will get a hotel too....It would be much more comfortable then the camper..but who knows, I kind of like the idea of staying in the camper and not having to drive around and tug my crap all over...and we need a campground and camping spot to make this a true MWC run...the hotel might get pissed if we have a campfire in the parking lot!

Well it's between the Super 8 and the Hannibal Inn, I do like the special RROCK rate. I'll do some calling tomorrow. But damn that A/C is sure sounding nice so I think we'll go the hotel route.

It's up to you Tyler, I hate to leave you out there at the campground by yourself but you're bringing your A/C with you! And yes we do need our usual MWC spot. :D

Yes Bob and I are both staying at the Super 8... According to the map, its only about 6-8miles down the road from the park, shouldn't take more than 5-6min to get there...

Camille s out cold, so I will discuss with her in the morning if we want to camp or get a hotel. If teh hannibal in i has trailer parking that would be sweet and they have a lounge there as well. I will see what see says b/c I have a feeling tha if JR an d Kelli are staying at a hotel she will be cool with it as well.

anyone know haw far the Hannibal Inn is to the park?

never mind, according to the map that a 3rd grader drew up, it looks like it is just a few blocks away from Super 8 towards the park.
