MWC Home brew thread

I'm amazed any brewing is legal in this sorry-ass state.

I think that day was one of the hottest ever in Chicago, would have gone pantless too, but not with Beezil around

i made beer at brewfest, didn't i?

I cannot remember what was made and where the hell it went!

did i bring it home?

or did you keep it?

Not the best angle but here's a pic of my set up.

Mash tun on the left feeds into the lauter grant, down to the pump to recirulate back up into the tun. Hot liquor tank is on the top level, it's a 20 gallon SS oxygen tank that was gutted. When I'm done mashing/recirculating I disconnect from the top inlet on the mash tun (behind the thermo) and hook up to the hose over in the upper right that allows me to pump into the kettle (which is a converted 15.5 gallon keg) hiding behind the center part of the rack over on the right side. I have 3 different burners I use for different applications that can be switched out depending on if I want to get to a boil quickly, do a decoction, etc.

Speaking of..

here is the first pour of my pale ale

HOW'S IT TASTE, MUTHA F****A?!

Good answer!

Tonight, I'm brewing an IPA fairly similar to Bell's Two Hearted Ale. I'm doing a partial mash. I added some Munich 10L malt to give a bit more malty/toasty flavor. Lots of Centennials. Dry hopping with a half ounce each of Centennials and Citra leaf hops. If anyone wants my recipe let me know and I will post it here. I'm also using this session to teach a friend how to brew and will be taking pictures. I will probably post some up here.

Sounds like you had a good time at brewfest :D
IIRC, you were gonna do your Chicago Lager but forgot something and did the Chicago Ale, or vice versa. All you left here was a bunch of assorted bottles, mostly an excellent brown and a couple assorted also excellent others.

That sounds really good.

Speaking of Citra, anybody else try Zombie Dust? Massive amounts of Citra aroma, but a reasonable total IBU.

I was looking on there site yesterday, I might go pick some of that up tonight.

If I do any one want something for WF?

I didn't take as many pics as I wanted, but I can take some of my set up and post them Saturday. I'm using a modified Rubbermade 3 gallon watercooler for a mash tun and a 5 gallon stock pot for the boil. I have a 6.5 gallon ale pail and 6 gallon better bottle for primary and a 5 gallon better bottle for secondary. I have a wort chiller. I don't have the space for kegging so I bottle. I use 22oz bombers and standard 12oz bottles most of the time.

On a side note, I've decided to go save my Citra's for my next brew and just use the Centennials in the dry hop.

I will definitely keep an eye out for that one. I love Citra's. Widmer does a summer beer with Citra's that has low bitterness but lots of flavor and aroma.

And on to pictures of my current beer: Gridlock! American Porter

From Three Floyds website...

"This intensely hopped and gushing undead pale ale will be ones only respite after the zombie apocalypse. Created with our marvelous friends in the comic industry. Art by Tim Seeley"

Like Dark Lord, they don't give ABV or IBUs on this one, but there are recipes out there.
