MWC Home brew thread

Got the stout all brewed up can't wait to try it it smelled pretty good when all the ingredients were going together its gonna be a long wait.

Im having a Widmer brothers okto festival ale right now. Its a german altbier (what I brewed) smells identical to my brew and is very similar in color. Makes me excited for mine.

I made a hard cider in August of 2010. My advice is be patient and do a three stage fermentation. When you rack it into secondary it will get it off the yeast but you will still have alot of apple "dust" in suspension. That will settle out and you will want to rack again for bulk aging. Mine has a crap ton of sediment in the bottle because I didn't do a 3 stage fermentation. I've been meaning to crack another bottle of it soon to see how its progressed over the past year. Also make sure you get juice/cider that is preservative free and pick up some pectic enzyme it will really help with keeping it clear. Sorry if you already knew all this I just figured I'd chime in with my experience.

And back to the top.

I'm planning on building a flat brew sculpture (think Brutus 10) in April. Non-automated, but with the possibility down the road.

i had a glass of rewsters beer last night. pretty good stuff, looked and tasted good. looking forward to what he has brewing up for st. patties

cant wait to try this one the sample was great!!

You just went into bottles?

yea thats the MR beer way i guess...

it spends 3 weeks in the fermenting keg and go straight to the bottle.

id like to get a "proper" set up, this only makes 24 bottles at a time

Did someone say St. Patty's day?!? I'm brewing 10 gallons of my Bloody Sunday Irish Red Ale this Saturday. Two weeks in the fermenter, two in the kegs, should be ready by the 17th. Irish and non-Irish alike are welcome to stop by and have a few if you find yourself in the Iowa City area that weekend!

Who has picks of their setup's???

I'll have to grab some when i do my american cream ale.

Here's my Winterfest brews, click on the pic to go to my homebrewing album.

My current setup is just a turkey fryer, with the soda keg fridge, three taps in door with two picnic taps inside, and three or four more picnic taps in the detached garage fridge.

There's a bunch of pics of the former MWC brewmeister's former all-grain setup which he's since given to me, and his current setup. I need to finish the gas plumbing and a few other details to get going with the all-grain.

i didn't think shirtless brewing was legal in IL :D

I'm amazed any brewing is legal in this sorry-ass state.

I think that day was one of the hottest ever in Chicago, would have gone pantless too, but not with Beezil around
