MARK YOUR CALENDAR!! Winterfest 2012 March 2-4

My boss just posted next years Drill schedule. I am free the first weekend in March. I already told my civilian boss I'm taking it off.

The only problem is I haven't wheeled for so long I'm not sure I remember how.

I'm up for seeing how much of MI I can do.

As of right now my rotation schedule has me working the exact dates of WF. I'm going to see if I can work out a schedule swap or build up a lot of comp time.

If things play out the way I am thinking though, I may be attending an extended 'training session' for a different agency during that time period.

I just hope to have my pile ready to roll by then....it is about 5 months away, surely I can get it done by then.....

I have my axle parts list assembled and going to start ordering stuff this week. Thinking I am going to spool the back, or possibly even weld it for the time being, and use a locker up front. Nate shot me some good info on the D60 a while back, so I am converting it from DRW to SRW and gonna put a disc brake set up on the Sterling. It is not the perfect rear axle, but I already have it and it is a simple $250 upgrade and a solid enough axle for my dainty pink slippers.

Detroit makes a locker for the 10.5. Kind of pricey. You can get away with a spool or welded on the east coast. I got pushed all over the place in Moab with a spool.

If you can afford to go selectable up front you'll like it in the long run. I love my detroit up front but if you don't go full hydrolic you'll hate yourself and probably rip the steering box off the frame.

You'll dig a spool in the back cause its cheap, especially if it's (insert your welder's name) locked in the back. However, if this is the setup you are eventually taking to moab you'll want a locker or better yet a selectable locker for the rear...I did not like my welded rear in Moab, with the slick rock it would load and unload my poorly designed yet still functions suspension when I did not want it to. You could always go to said locker before moab after you weld it to save $$ right now. I'm eventually going to build a 60 for the rear of mine to replace the eaton.

I am gonna weld it up to start b/c I can not find a spool for it and the lockers are pricey. I found an ARB on eBay with an entire axle for cheap in California, and I wanted to just have him ship the locker and he could scrap the axle, he declined b/c he wants it all out of his way(typical caltard! :D). I really want to go selectable up front, so I am saving for that first and will go w/ a better locker option in the rear later. Jopsh, did I see somewhere that you had some 8" coils around still? mine are ragged out and crazy soft. On linking the back I keep going back to air shocks due to price, but really want some coil overs...once again cost is a bit of an issue unless I can find a deal on a used set. Mac, are you running 14" travel?

Yes mine are 14 in travel Kings. I think I'm running 250/250 spring rate front and rear.

I still have them in the garage, maybe I put them in the storage shed. I'll have the wife look around. They're 8" skyjackers.

Do you need them soon? She can ship them to you if she finds them. They're in the box that my 6.5" coils came in.

No rush at this point Josh, my current ones are SkyJackers too...so may consider switching up brands and comparing spring rates. Shoot me a PM what ya want for them, it may influence my decision making :D

If you have a spool in the rear and find your self pushed around, just unlock one front hub until you need it.

I unlocked and locked a hub in my first trip out with the popcan to save money.

When I returned home I ordered a detroit.

I hate my spools! The cherokee really hated it on turns. It caused it too lean a lot!!!!

I am thinking about a full on axle build and retaining my current suspension until after teh axles are built and that way i can get used to the width and then I can chop it after WF. I think financing the axles and building them w/ 2 selectable lockers and might as well throw in some new deeper gears while I am at it since the gears will be pulled to put in the ARB's. I am going to build this 100% cash out of pocket, no credit cards (dave Ramsey, eat your heart out! :D ), so it is gonna take a bit. But I WILL be at WF suckas! who knows, I may end up selling some of my excess stuff and be able to help expedite the build. :dunno:

You will love having selectable lockers. It's really nice when you have to do those multi-point turns and you turn off both ends.

I run the front open all the time unless I need it in some mud or on the obstacle. Makes turning the 35's easier.
