Long term, yes, try to keep the DEET off your skin. I work in lawn care and landscaping during the summer and I use 40% DEET and I use it A LOT. I am always wearing a t-shirt so it's directly on my skin, no ill effects so far...but I don't recommend it! ;)

yea gas and diesel and other things like that have taken their toll on me. im only 23 and my hands shake noticeably. the doc says its cuz i never wear gloves and play in those fuels frequently.. i should probly smarten up

im just an abandoned building explorer guy

im pised they just tore down the old mill in my town ive explored that quite thoroughly
damn. where was that?off the pemi?
im pretty familiar with the area(go to tripoli every year)and heard about it, but never found it!
I would like to explore that old theatre thats in the middle of town.

I love exploring old crap.

I haven't managed to damage myself really, I use DEET directly on my skin, degrease things with gasoline barehanded, never wore gloves for two years working at a quicklube garage... hands don't really shake at all. I blame the lack of caffeine :D

(do as I say, not as I do)

If I did not have DEET I would either be insane or blood-free. All manner of bloodsucking bugs really really love me, if I am there the rest of you are safe.

I personally have never had much of a bug issue in the North Woods in late Aug on.. Sept and Oct can be real nice up there, espescially with the change of colors.

I did get chased out of Nova Scotia by black fly's in early Sept back in the early 90's. Came home swollen and bleeding.. good times indeed.

Noseeums can be bad late in the year, those little bastids really bother me. But it really depends on how wet of a spring we have and how much standing water is around when it starts warming up, so let's hope for the best.

the theatre with the huge white thing next to is was the old mill. that is now gone. i spent a lot of time skating in the bowls that were on the top floor

that cos something like 6mil to tear down cuz of all the asbestos everywhere

if your talkin about where a mill used to be on the pemi down in campton next time your up ill show you where that is. its a pretty sick cave now and a cool waterfall. if you have a facebook find me and add me theres pics of it on there. jonathan pinkham is the nam

So to keep this topic fresh, it looks like this is becoming a 2 club event with ME4x4 as a host, which we'd love to do BTW.

One of the questions that came up was "What about the non-XJ guys, can they attend the event, too?"

I told them that they would all have to burn their rigs to the ground and go buy an XJ or face a firing squad. :patriot::laugh:

Seriously, I didn't think it would be an issue, but wanted to post it here for you thoughts...

Any more on the span of time you guys/gals are planning? Week? Month? Year? Long weekend?

No problem with non-XJs IMO. I'm thinking week or long weekend, hopefully sometime this summer or late fall (after first frost so the bugs are gone), not sure.

Anyone else?

i just stumbled on this thread... i grew up in farmington and go to school at UMO in orono. i would definitely be in for this trip if the jeep cooperates and i have time. i have wanted to do a jeep camping trip since i started building my jeep and i love exploring trails/ roads. sounds like a blast to me. i'd also be up for some good wheeling if we stopped at one of the parks or hit some trails... for now, i'd say count me in:guitar:

Well our draft version of this is to plan for the whole week including both weekends from June 18th - 27th; that's Friday through the weekend, all week and the following weekend.

We thought that having Allwheels as a 'home base' would be good. They have wheeling right there and you can set up tents, etc.

There are campgrounds in the area with hookups if you want to do that.

There's also hotels, etc within a few miles, too.

Then we would just plan day trips to other areas from there. Maybe a 2 day trip to the North Maine Woods. People could check in whenever is best for them and sign up for whatever events are going on. Probably could do some BBQ's etc at night around the campfire.

There's another park not too far from Allwheels we could check out during the week too.

We are planning a club meeting to come up with ideas. Once we get better organized we could post a flier here showing the schedule for events.

Let's pick a week. Does June 18th-27th work for everyone? Or part of that timeframe?

We're open to ideas.............
