Q: How many guys do we have in Maine.

Reason I ask is, I have an uncle that lives in Lee. He owns / sells land up in that area... as well theres tons of logging roads and other various No-mans-land areas... So I was thinking of maybe putting together a small expedition up to Maine, do some nature trails see some wildlife, go fishing & camping by a lake... that kinda stuff.

This is just an idea at the moment, but I have family up there in case any "problems" occur. I am just curious how many guys frequent the forums from Maine that might be sorta kinda near Lee or the surrounding area. Might be cool to have a meet up and also have some back up on the trails... plus 5 jeeps are better than 1

when i first signed up here there seemed to be quite a few members from maine, now i dont see a whole lot.

I've wheeled in maine several times, mostly in southern maine near the York and Portland. I've been to All-Wheels offroad Park in Lewiston once.

I live in maine, near wiscasset which is about an hour north of portland on the coast. All-wheels is alright, but theres a park in carthage, maine called Rocky Mountain Terrain Park that I want to check out. You have to book a weekend with a group though. I know they have had fourwheeler magazine run their real truck challenge there and some of the obstacles look pretty nasty. Other than that there are some good places all over to check out.

If my girlfriend had her way we would be looking for a house in Maine and not PA. It is very nice up there. I like your idea but I know I wouldn't be able to participate in it if it happens.

I'v been wanting to put together an NAC Maine run for some time now, just havent had the opportunity.

Look into the Allagash area, lots of logging roads and campsites in the area. I usually enter from Ashland. You'll pay a fee to enter paper co land.

Lee is pretty close to Millinocket (Golden Rd). That would make a good camp location for a few rigs but i dont think theres alot available for offroad exploring. I also read that there has been a large land purchase around Baxter by a wealthy woman and closed the area to all but foot traffic, totally PO'd the local hunters etc. Your uncle probably knows of this.

yeah I heard & read about that, However I am saying I have access to land that will be legal for us to explore... As well I would love to visit some other areas.

Perhaps you and I shoul discuss this and start laying down locations for a possible run. :bunny:

I guess it could be any time... just want to put the ideas / places down. Then discuss a time frame. I am going to do this, I just think it would be more fun with a couple jeeps.

do it early next summer

it could be a great replacement than senior week

and knowing brad there will be just about as much alcohol

man this sounds like fun...
Are you talking a man-cation here or is this going to be a family type event?

just curious, I know I am not the only MWK around...

This sounds like a pretty cool idea.

2 things I'd say should be in the jeep for the voyage.

Full size spare
CB

...we can make a complete list as we start to get more serious about a time frame.
Those are two things I have always believed were mandatory.
They were in my old club, and I've been surprised when I started wheeling with people over here how many people didn't have CB's.

All I know is if I'm going into the woods, I am making sure I have a CB. It saved my ass once when I got separated and lost in the woods.

Cant go wrong with a Maine trip, it's one of the last places on the east coast where you can really feel "out there".

Last trip up there in 05 we caught trout during a hatch, saw Deer, Moose and Bear. Get your Lobster fresh off the boat in fishing villages like Camden on the way north if your running up the coast.

I warn ya though, spring can be hell with the skeeters. All my trips have been late August to mid October timeframe, which was much better. My first trip was in 89, and not much has changed in the area.

You need to keep your eyes open, coming around a bend in the middle of the road can have you facing a fully loaded logging truck hauling butt. THEY have the right of way in the North Woods.

Check out Baxter SP, Allagash Wilderness Waterway for some info.

I sure hope this materializes and i'm able to join y'all.

would june be really buggy

this would be great if it was like the week of the 20th of june

Just ran all dirt from the Aziscohos hydro dam to Eustis, stayed on the main Lincoln pond road with a quick jaunt off to the B-17 crash memorial. Bout 40 miles of mostly unimproved dirt with some improved areas near logging. Nothing hard, but all dirt all day. More roads crisscrossing than you can count, could easily log hundreds of miles without seeing tar. If anyone is interested in exploring the western mountains/Canadian border areas I am always game for a trip. Im up in Farmington, so Im in these areas every chance I get.

Not sure how these will work first attempt at playing with GPS tracks...

Allagash is an awesome area! Been there three times for a 70 mile canoe trip. Never been there to wheel. Its a beautiful area though.
