That was the wife talking guys....and she took it EXTREMELY well. Thanks to all for the help. We'll see soon what all this will cost.

Battle Scars. Should they be fixed? or not?

Not.

I better get more protection installed by the next trip.

Well...it was interesting. John saved my ass this morning helping me limp to a car wash where I washed about 6 cubic yards of mud out of my radiator. Speaking of limping, the ankle isn't sprained. After careful consideration, I'm pretty sure it's a broken foot.

All that aside, it was a great outing on some VERY challenging trails. Thanks to everyone for the awesome time! When I get my pics developed, I'll figure out a way to post some online.

So, where are we going next?

I was down at Avanteone's shop last week pulling some stuff off of a rig. I'm reasonably certain he has a chrome power driver's side mirror sitting on the shelf. Call him Tuesday at 253 939 5019.

Well I am sure that not everyone feels quite the same as I do.

But I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE!!!

That was one of the best trips I have ever been on. Again, great people, incredible trails (some I have done before and others I had not). Great experiences with everything from cleaning up after others in the camp site, wheeling with the sheriffs department, helping people out on the trail, and tons of wonderful conversation. The trails were beautifull, difficult, technical, but doable for all as we proved!!

As Mark noted, with as little carnage as I got during the day on the trail (I did rub the paint off of a couple of body side skids and I do have to remount part of one YJ flare in the back). I really outdid myself on the couple of miles between the Evans Creek parking lot and just after the bridge with both my tie rod and flat tire (I still have not looked at what is in my tire, but will let you know once I examine it).

John, I think that all of us can learn from your experience, it was educational for all of us and I appreciate that.

Mark, you should be very proud of yourself with the little damage you got. You did a great job on some very difficult trails.

Andy, you made driving your longer wheel base, stick shift, carburated, slick tired jeep really easy. I am sure that most of us would have had significantly more difficulty with it than you showed. I was impressed.

Matt, It is amazing how you can go down the same trail 9 time and never get any damge, and yet 1 more time and you do. Again, another good learning experience for all of us. I hope you are able to get the cooling system back up and running (I really am curiouse how you get it all fixed). And take care of that foot!! It was very nice to meet your Dad, very good guy.

Can not wait to do it again.
How about we do Walker Valley? Or Elbe (I have never been).
Other ideas?
I am up for anything.

Thanks again for a wondeful day in the woods!!

Sounds and looks like you guys had a blast. Glad to see that everything went well. WOW John you out did yourself didn't you. How did your rack hold up?

Yea lets do Walker Valley in the near future. I live close(with in 50miles) and have never been there. What about Oct??

Mike how fast were you going went you Tie Rod let go?

Walker Valley was open a few weeks back (Scott and I went up just to test a few modifications quickly). I have been there numerouse times. Some of what I remember to be really good 4x4 roads were locked off, but there were a few other trails open (nothing like Evans in my opinion). Walker Valley is very close to Mt Vernon, probably 1.5 hours from Tacoma?

Hans, I was doing about 40mph when my tie rod let go. Actually it come out of only the pass side (so I still had 1 wheel steering). But with the caster it was not as bad as I would have expected. I came to a reasonably quick stop and put it back together. I will be making some better permanent fixes for this issue.

Glad you are safe, that kind of failure can be very dangerous. You wouldn't be interested in a new(almost new) drag link & alumi-flex tie bar & rod ends?-

No, I have Heims on all of my steering and I have been very happy with them. Nothing failed, the nut fell off the bottom of my bolt that holds on my tie rod. What surprise me is I have had this steering for over two years and never had an issue till last trip it was slightly loose. I pulled the lock washer out and tightened it down (to get more threads on the nut) and came home. Before this trip I thread locked the nut on both sides. But obviously that did not hold well.

I will be replacing the bolt putting in a lock washer again, and considering a lock nut with thread lock. I do check it before each trip and it has only ever been loose the last two trips. I am beginig to suspect that threads are going on the bolt (grade 8 but maybe I have re-torqued it too many times and they are just not holding as well).

I will see what happens when I replace it all with new.

The gas can was in the red jeep and was taken out after the roll.

I will have to check the map to remind myself of the trail number we were on. We had come down 168 ( I think I remember correctly) and then took the cut off down to the main gravel road 165 or 167 or similar. I will check the map and post again.

Well I do not have a clue what got my tire but it left a 1+ inch split in side the tire and two shops have both said they would not fix it. I also found at least 1 split in the inner side wall (they are BFG 3 ply side wall retreads). So I am now going to check the other tires and determine if it is time for the Super Swampers I want or to try to hold out longer and try to make due with what I have and fixing it myself or something. Not sure yet, I suspect it will depend on what the others look like on the inside.
