Learning to Weld

Okay, so the argument against a HF welder is... what? Wire feed issues? Poor penetration? Iffy durability? All of the above? Everyone's saying to stay away from them, but nobody is saying why. Just thought I'd ask. :dunno:
 
reliability. spend the money on a lincoln, miller, or hobart. those are the top 3 brands for welding equipment. i'm partial to lincoln myself, but all 3 are worth the quid.
 
Lincoln Hobart and Miller all made in the USA. Plus I have heard horror stories on the other china welders not working. Having to go back and get new one all the time. Spend a little extra now and have a welder for life you can pass on to your kid someday. ESAB is another great welder. They can be cashy though. If you take welding classes the students sometimes get some great deals on welders.
