Keeping A Low Center of Gravity.

i took my xj out on the nightmare gulch trail this weekend, i am rolling 4.5" of lift on 235's (until i can afford 33x12.50's) anyway, it took the trail flawlessly, everyone else i rolled with had 35's -37's and i still hung with them with no rock rash or having to be winched anywhere ;) i like having a lower cog

Who are you riding with?

It was a group of guys from MJR. I told them i was going and then they ditched out on me and i thought they were running last chance first so i went there and well they ran nightmare first. I looked at the pics posted on MJR from other peoples cameras and saw no pics of him through the trail at all. I know how he drives and i am sure if there was a bypass he took it. He doesnt like scratches or dents because he still owes 6K on his jeep

I'm at a little less than 3" with 35's on 10" rims with 4" of BS. I rub a little up front but not in the rears. I need to change my shackle angle so I might be going up about 1/2" to 3/4"; not sure yet?

Kind of hard to see here but I'm about 4" lower than my buddy with 33's and a 2" bb with 1" BL on his TJ.

Here's the build thread...

Back on topic - I think 2-3" is about as high as I'm ever going with this XJ, these tires are probably the biggest I'll go too. Still need to trim/bumpstop because I have very little uptravel before running into things as it stands.

CUT CUT CUT!! then when ya think youve cut enough then cut some more i ran less lift with bigger tires and didnt have any major rubbing issues

Didn't Zebra decide his car was too low and do a couple inch lift after all?

Pretty sure that's the case.

I don't think a 3" lift and big tires would get you over a lot of the rocks at Rausch Creek. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong, but I just don't see it. Unless you are dragging the skidplates over EVERYTHING.

That's how he got to 3". He started with no lift and saggy springs.

I did 33's and no lift (and saggy leafs at that), and I honestly didn't like it much.

Stock springs, stock bumpstops, basically stock uptravel. Even with my rediculous trim job (complete replacement of wheel wells front and back), the tires did rub on the upper fenders still:

I pieced together a 3" lift, and much prefer it to no lift. The rig is still very well balanced and stable, and I dont get hung up nearly as often. And those fast(ish) runs through the desert are much better with another 3 inches of uptravel.

you say it like using skid plates as they are intended is a bad thing.

i have been through all the blacks and most of the reds there with 3" lift on 36/37's

there are plenty of places there where a taller lift height will be less capable.

Im learning this right now. We went on a trail out in Last Chance Canyon that had a bad side tilt and there were a few times that i thought i was going to go over. (im at about 6.5 to 7 in the front and 6 in the rear). My neighbor who has a stock YJ had no issue on that trail. So i am realizing what you all are talking about.

Not technically. The COG is a mathmatical function of where the mass of your rig is positioned. The higher it sits, the higher the COG.

Full width axles, deep offest (low backspace) wheels, and really wide tires will help get some of your stability back, but don't change the actual COG.

For what it's worth, I run 35s on about 5", and wouldn't change a thing...

True. So lose the roof and attach some tractor weights to the rims. You won't go anywhere.

5.5-6" on 35s would like to be at about 5 and 35s rustys flares still clear em with a bit of trimming that is. But mine aren't the supper fancy flexable ones so they don't bend if my tire hits. it's still pretty stable on road as a DD i test that every day lol. Woul like to get a HD sway bar though.

really like the ability and look of this one...low COG or not. nice rig.

Aw, come on...

You know the roof is made of the same stuff they stamp license plates out of.

I can balance out the entire roof stucture by eating a double whopper with cheese for lunch...
