Keeping A Low Center of Gravity.

I'm shooting for 2.5ish and 31's i may go up a little more than that but I like how it does now with basically no lift and 235/75/15's It just need s a JCR belly skid and a wee bit more clearance and I'm content.

Aw, come on...

You know the roof is made of the same stuff they stamp license plates out of.

I can balance out the entire roof stucture by eating a double whopper with cheese for lunch...

Robert

Robert, that is friggin Hilarious!

i have 235's and basically 4 inches of lift plus some trimming, and im torn between 31's and 33's, i want to go 33's but treadwright.com doesnt have any i like and i want to try a set out to see if they are any good. last time i went to the desert i liked having my full 6" of uptravel when i went over rocks and hit unexpected dips in the roads. but i didnt like dragging axle if i didnt go over some rocks, im not a serious rock crawler so overall ground clearance isnt a huge issue so idk if i should try 31's and go 33's later or vise versa

I bought my Jeep with bald tires, I aimed for 0-1" lift w/ 30's which happened.

That then turned into 3.5" with 30's.

Then I was dicking around on craigslist and found 33x12.50 ATs and thought "I could make those work"

I made those work (they had minimal backspace and stick 4-5" out on each side of the Jeep after the trimming, so I made myself some fenders out of lawn edging (so they would pass MA inspection, I have been told on multiple times its the cleanest "XJ lawn edging job" the person has seen:roflmao:).

Now I think it looks mean and wheels well enough... but would look meaner and wheel better if the fenders were tubbed and I had 36's with MAYBE another inch of lift and full width axles (and 2" more backspacing so the width stays the same :D)

So much for a cheap rig. At least it's not my DD anymore. Aiming to have the floor pans replaced by the end of Nov so that I can drive it should we get a mean storm, but right now it is 100% off the road. Makes me sad :(

If you are staying low and looking for clearance, I suggest you look at TnT's belly skid. It replaces the stock crossmember, and gains you about 2" under the rig.

If you intend to do any hard offing that belly armor is a must. I'm at about 2 with 31 or 235 and spend more time on my skids then my wheels :) and don't forget the tank too.

Just went through this whole thread, one common theme I kept seeing was busted up fenders. I'm not saying a LCG with big tires is a bad thing just pointing out what I kept seeing.

That's what comes with owning a cherokee and putting bigger tires on it. You gotta do a whole lot more work to fit them and sometimes you still rub all over the place.

I have 4" lift, 31" tires and only 1.5" uptravel after bumpstopping it enough so that my LTB's don't rub. Kinda sucks but oh well. I'm not into cutting up such a nice jeep.

i can thank the ninja trees for my last rig.

my new one ( 3" and 33's) i'm not able to trim as much due to the washer fluid bottle so they do contact a bit, some bumpstops will alleviate this once i get around to it.

I tried to stay as low as possible and run as big of tire as possible with my build. I am really happy with how it turned out. I used a trailer fender to make up the difference in the back between the two layers of sheet metal. I am going to tons and 40's next. I am going to try to keep the same height. Of course this picture was taken at the end of the build, before all the rock rash and dents.

really like the ability and look of this one...low COG or not. nice rig.
:sad1: He likes my Jeep... Tomorrow i'm putting on a 3.5" on my friends back halfed xj. Rusty's 3.5" leafs and zj coils with spacers, he's thinking of going 33's. I'm taking him on has first trip to moab in a few weeks so that will help him decide on tire size i think. But he'll will run the 245's he already has till the money rolls in for new or used rubber. i think that should qualify as low CG.

besides rocks and trees hitting them it can just simply be due to lack of trimming and/or lack of bumpstops. i have a dented fender from my tires rubbing......i have 235/75 r15 BFG A/T which is about a 29" tire.

you will HAVE to either bumpstop and/or trim if you get bigger tires, taller lift or not.

i never flexed into the fenders no matter how hard i tried at stock height and 235 bfg mt's... i still have stock wheels though

I've static flexed my 235 bfg at's (on stock wheels) into the flair, don't know if it'd be much worse on a big bump.
