What time Saturday morning are you leaving the camp area. I plan on dropping by to spectate and maybe try some of the easier runs. Will be spending Friday night in a nearby motel someplace. Need to know what time I have to be at the assembly area to to on a run.

We plan on runs leaving at 8:00 am. The hardcore run will leave at 8:00, aired down and disconnected. The other runs could leave slightly later, depending on what the trail leaders think. Anyone who is driving out on Sat morning should plan to be there by 7:30, so there's time to prepare for the run, and figure out which one to go on.

how long will a typical "run" take? What's a good estimate of time to get from camp, through a typical trail and back to camp (no breakage)?

gettin excited :D

No such thing, Brett. I've run Sledge, then run Jack, then played around on the competition rocks (and broke) and still got back to camp before 6:00. I've also run plenty of times and finished the trail in the dark. The trails change constantly, sometimes easier and sometimes harder, plus the number of rigs on the run, and how much breakage. We never leave camp later than 8:00, and many times a little earlier........you never know how the day will go.

Also, it will normally be cold in the morning, then could be short sleeve weather during the day, then the wind come up blowing through the canyon and get cold again, so wear layers.

good to know.

I can see I have many misconceptions about the place; I was guessing it was just a few minutes from camp to the trails, then maybe an hour to do a trail.

Any anticipation of a night run? (purposefully, not from getting back late) I have some rock lights to install and need to decide how much of a priority that is...

Most of the trails are 5 minutes from camp, the farthest is about 30 minutes.
You really can't plan how long a trail will take with a big group. 2-3 cars could run Sledge in 30-45 minutes, or???
Last week Dave & I left camp at 8:30, the exact same time as 11 TJ's left camp. We ran several trails & took back road to the middle of Sledge. When we arrived only 1 of those TJ's had made it to the half way point. At 8:pm they still hadn't made it back to camp. & that is not knocking the 11 TJ's, as we've all had 12 hour days on a single Hammer. Just depends on the size of the group & the number of issues.
We'll definietly be making night runs, but with a full moon there's no need for rock lights. I do lots of night runs & I don't have rock lights (light is heavy :laugh3: )
However, with stock axles & no winch, trail selection is key.

Rock lights are pretty cool for driving around camp, and are a big help if you break at night. :D

I've done plenty of night runs and don't have rock lights, and don't have any plans to install them. I wouldn't mind having some, but they aren't necessary. With a full moon, it works pretty good to run without lights. I'd leave that for last, and do it if you have the time.

If I do get around to installing them, I'll use strings of red LED's down both sides.....wouldn't want to ruin my night vision. :)

Don't forget snow.

snow sucks

Especially in two wheel drive!

We should have done a snow run up Clawhammer. We must be getting old.

That's no good, LEDs won't fill with water.

You do realize that from the J.V. run on, you will forever be known only as "Cupcake".
