Johnson Valley Nov 19-20

Sweet. Fun in the Desert, a group from my club was there. They ran Jack, bypassed the first notch. :D

A few questions:

Are there going to be any organized trail runs or is it run whatever you like, when ever?

Is there going to be a prize for the longest distance traveled?

Anybody going to be there Friday?

What sort of trail(s) could I run with out too much effort with 5" lift,35" tires, front and rear locked, skids and rock rails? Keep in mind my front is only a 30 with the disconnect so I can't get too crazy - plus I've got a 700 mile drive back home!

If you've never been there before, I would wait to run with the group. You'll get lost unless someone posts up good GPS coordinates.

All the trails are runable in your configuration, but be prepared with spare shafts and good spare tire(s), and make sure your junk is well maintained.

JV will find the weak spots in your rig and expoit them.

Assuming you have stock front axles, and probably 260x axle u-joints, you WILL break a front axle on any but the easiest of the JV trails with 35" tires. We'll set up some trail runs, and groups will be divided by equipment. There will be a newby run for those who've never been there before, or who have marginal equipment for the trails.

Since this is meant to be a chance for an intro to the JV trails, we will relax our normal JV run requirements, and we will do a moderate and easy run, as well as the hard stuff. For those who want to know, here is the normal list of requirements for a hard JV trail run. Two lockers, minimum 33" tires, proper skid plates and body protection, no D35's, no 260x front axle u-joints, Spicer (stock) front axles only with 33" tires (35" and larger tires must have alloy shafts), front axle u-joints must have full circle clips or be welded, no stock differential gears, stick shifts must have low t-case gears, axle size should match tire size.

We're going to have a fun weekend, so come how you are, but that at least gives you an idea of what is preferable for the hard trails. We will match you to a trail based on how you're equiped. If you want to run one of the hard trails, you at least have to have tires that match your axles, and proper gears, especially if you have a stick.

2.5 weeks to go! Here are a few pictures from Saturday to keep ya motivated during those last late night pre-JV wrench sessions:

There must have been a big time flash flood in the last 2 weeks, as Wrecking Ball is nothing like last month, or that I've ever seen for that matter. I couldn't even get front tires on a couple of waterfalls that normally aren't a problem.
Outer Limits should be fun :)

Exit fall? Did you guys get it?

What time Saturday morning are you leaving the camp area. I plan on dropping by to spectate and maybe try some of the easier runs. Will be spending Friday night in a nearby motel someplace. Need to know what time I have to be at the assembly area to to on a run.

It would be a good idea to be at the main camp and ready at least by 8:00 AM. Runs will not be finalized until shortly before the event, things change out there depending on traffic and weather making last minute changes a possibility.
