JCR anti-roll mod idea

Just curious, when I bought my Rusty's tierod conversion, there were these bluecovers on each of the rod ends which seemed to protect the rubber grease pouches/dust shields.

They weren't spacers or anything right? Certainly didn't seem like a spacer of any sort.

I threw them out regardless, but I am just curious. I am pretty sure they were just protectors for the tierod ends in shipment to keep the studs straight.

The spacer's we are talking about replace the rubber dust boot. Just like you see here http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=1TNSTBSH&Category_Code=S6

I'll add to the list of people having problems with the spacer. I have about 1/2 of a turn of dead spot with mine. The knuckle is reamed perfect and the spacer did hold up pretty good for a while. After a few wheeling trips it's shot, again.
IMO the spacer is the weak link when you have to turn the tires against obstacles. Pretty much ruins it on the spot.

I'd love it if somebody would come up with a material to use that is stonger and has less mermory.

I might end up using a piece of soft aluminium and see how long that holds up. It'll develope play but it might not be as bad.

Find a 3/8"(0.375) sheet of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and cut your own spacer out.

I have the JCR OTK steering kit. I have been running it all summer on many wheeling trips with out a problem. I never used JCRs [FONT=Arial,Helvetica][SIZE=-1]polyurethane TRE spacer b/c I made my own out of a sheet of HDPE I had laying around.

No ill will here (really), but why do you call it a "so called problem"? If there was not a problem, this thread would not have over 900 views in under 24 hours.

There is a picture earlier in this thread that shows my exact problem, and I'll bet emr's too. It's an issue that JCR is aware of and working on, frankly I'm suprised they have not posted on this thread.

I like the idea of the High-Density Polyethylene. I read awhile back of someone doing this, and I was hoping they would post what had happened with this. I"m glad to hear it is working for you. Thanks for the link... Is that the material you used?
Out of curiosity, why did you not use the JCR bushing?

B/c I have been asking emr1101 for a pic of it for awhile now in many of the threads he has been complaining/bashing in about JCR steering.

As for the 900 views....It could be b/c of the thread topic (which doesn't say steering) has the words "JCR" and "mod". Or people could have been reading into the Ackerman discussion. Or b/c people are interested in a discussion about a steering kit they are interested in. Or maybe 900 ppl with this kit have looked at this thread in 24 hrs and have problems with it....and I guess I should just except that my jeep is magical.


I see your picture, are you sure that your ball in your TRE is not being pulled out?
Is the bushing nice and tight up against the knuckle and TRE when new?--------B/c there shouldn't be any roll when new.
If not.......stop using something you know doesn't work and try something else.

Yes, I am 90% sure the material I used was HDPE.


I didn't use the JCR bushing b/c they forgot to send them out. I called JCR, they apologized and send them out........ But I need them for a wheeling trip the next day................SO..........I made my own out of the HDPE sheet I had laying around.

The 900+ views are because the title says "JCR ANTI-ROLL MOD". There are a lot of people looking for a fix for this issue, myself included.

The picture wasn't mine, but it might as well have been. Mine looks just like it. I know the problem lies in the bushing. You get into the rocks and your wheels are jammed... crank on the wheel a little and watch the spacer collapse. Ball Joints are good.

JCR acknowloedges this problem. They are trying to come up with different material.

As for "stop using something you know doesn't work and try something else" That's exactly why I'm reading and activley involved in this thread. I like your HDPE. I'll probably give that a shot. Couldn't do much worse.

I bet you can just buy 2 Countersunk or Cupped Washers and some hard durable Rubber and make them your self.:yelclap:

That's also something JCR was looking at doing, but I believe they were having trouble finding durable cupped washers...
 
I run the rugged ridge which is obviously same thing without the one ton tie rod ends. I was just gonna ditch it for zj steering because of this issue. I have spacer on passenger side tie rod end which is helped a little, before i give up should try a spacer on driver side rod end and tie rod to draglink end or is that a waste of my time? Oh and i used a energy suspension shock bushing I bought in a kit of four from baxters for seven bucks and its holding up okay if anyone needs one local.

yeah it really is getting on my nerves too, but i may try makeing that custom rubber/washer bushing set up

Haha yeah I just thought the same thing, any one tried it? Im going to go ahead and try the HDPE material, just ordered some. Hopefully it will work well.
