The sensors in the lower and upper radiator hoses control the low and high electric fan speeds...my understanding of it.

The coolant sensor bad is in the overflow tank and on the speed net site there's a way to test it.

If it tests ok it's the broken soder in the VIC...

Well I went and got stone in my comanche trailer on Friday. I should have used my bigger drop hitch but will make sure I do that next time. Ended up putting 1600lbs of stone in it. Glad we were only going a couple miles down the road cuz it was a little to much weight in it.

Yup. My dad always told me that if he ever caught me using a press on a u-joint he would box my ears.

I use this method on all u-joints, has never failed to get the caps out.
 
I use 2 hammers to remove my u-joints. A smaller ball peen that fits inside the ear and a larger ball peen to bang away on that. The first time I replaced joints in my Jeep I used a press. Bent the ears in. Spent quite a bit of time breaking caps and ultimately bending the ears back after I noticed the problem. I'll never use a press again.
 
What did I miss yesterday? The day was great in Nashville, went to the Opry Matinee (Oak Ridge Boys, Jim Ed Brown, Mark Wills, Joey + Rory and Larry Gatlin) and then went to the Grand Ole Opry (Roy Clark, Maggie Rose, Mel Tillis, Tate Stevens, Charley Pride, Bill Anderson, Mike Snider and Scotty McCreery). Got home about 5am.

Well, interesting method.

A couple of notes:

Not everyone has a big old vice.
I used to use 2 sockets and a 5lber. Large socket went on the receiving end, small socket went on the cap end. Beat though. Remove Cap with channel locks, turn over and repeat. I guess it worked... when I was younger.

I used his method of installing caps. Multiple fails. Always having to remove caps and start over. Much frustration.

I started using a ball joint press. Push though, remove cap, flip repeat. Done.
Even works on difficult caps. Works for me.

Clean ears with scotchbright. Hit with your fav spray lube.

I worked out this method to avoid the needle bearing issue:

Add some grease to caps.
Insert joint so that the spindle is exposed on one side.
Spin cap on that side and while putting pressure on the joint to keep the x-joint in the cap, tap the cap into place with a light hammer.
Expose enough clip channel area to install clip, and install the clip.
Put it back in press and push the new cap partially though so the opposite spindle is exposed on the other side.
Spin on that cap, put it back in press and press it back until the previously installed clip hits the ear.
Install the Clip on the side you just put on.

Sometimes the joint is tight. I fix this by smacking the end of the ear sharply with a hammer and twisting the joint to make sure it moves freely.

I don't use u-joints with fittings in the middle for wheel joints due to access problems.

lately I have taken to using a method I read about here to prevent clips from spinning off on the trail. I put a tack weld where the cap meets the ear on the outside surface of the shaft. Just a 30 second tap with a wire feed. I have noticed an improvement in clip retention when using this method. Just an extra step installing and removing the cap.
 
threw a pork shoulder on the smoker at 5am, been going good all day. have burgers and dogs ready to grill when folks start arriving. looks like the warm weather and kinda sunny skies may hold out. pool is clean, cool and ready to go. pork should be coming off around 2/3. good day for a BBQ party.
 
I believe I'll be doing some grilling out by myself tonight.:bawl:

Still in GA.... still hot, sweaty and full of southerners.. Can't wait to get back north. So completely tired of dealing with people who are 'fixin' to get to it' whenever you ask why something isn't done. or the answer of "that ain't the way its dun' here" when you ask why something is so totally screwed up and done wrong.


BTW... guess I should read more of the members forum. Lots o' drama in there.
