Important

I said it was good in the snow. That's about it. Lucky for us we bought it right after the dealer had replaced the timing belt. The people who owned it before us bought it from that dealer and had every single bit of required and scheduled maintenance done within 20 miles of its required date. They had all the records to back that up too.

Unfortunately for us, right after we bought it the head gaskets failed. It's also been full of little nit picky things that constantly drive me nuts. Ill never own another one.

what year is your subie? ours has 140k...no head gasket issues whatsoever. we have had the timing belt replaced...though its probably about time to check it again. even with lo pro tires and a turbo its still a beast in the snow...its a tossup between the xj and the subie in the snow. if the snow is deep, ill take the xj though :)

I want a 242...
Gonna have a welded rear this winter, should be interesting.

I never had a full time case. I DD'd a 231 in the winter a few years in the MJ, with a Detroit. Was always in and out of 4wd, constantly minding the lever.

242 is the tits. Shove it in full time and go on your way. It's pretty sweet in a hard rain at 70 MPH on the freeway too.

I think from here on out anything 4WD that gets driven on the road will have a full time case. part time belongs on the rocks.

2000. I really hate that car. It's by far the most uncomfortable car I've ever owned. The left arm rest is too high, the right arm rest is too low. I have no leg room. The seat kills my back. Oddly enough my wife is the opposite. She loves it.

Keep it sideways!

I have a noslip in mine, I always get weird look when driving around a corner. Learn to steer with the throttle. ;)

How loud are those air comps tho?

Not too bad when they're in another room...

One thing to think about is an automatic drain for the fully enclosed compressors.

There's a tiny little garden shed on the back of my man cave that might work very well as an compressor space. Problem is that I expect it to get at least several degrees colder out there than inside the fully insulated space. I expect to see -10 to -20 F for 2 weeks every winter here. But it would be nice to get a few sq. ft. of space back, and not have the noise to deal with.

well that makes sense.

DOn't you know that they were designed for lesbians?

Did you get the good head gaskets put in it? My subaru nerd friends tell me that the MLS head gaskets for the EJ257/EJ255 motor in an STI, part number 11044AA642, are the best gaskets to put in any EJ25 motor. If you have an EJ22 series, obviously this doesn't do you any good.

Not sure what's in it. My gall bladder decided to blow up right before this happened so I was recovering from surgery and couldn't do it myself. I did put the updated ones in it that aren't supposed to fail. I also don't plan on owning it long enough to blow up again.

I keep telling my wife she really "needs" an SRT-8 Grand but so far she's not buying it.

sorry for the pseudo tech question...

anyone who has done a swap on an mj from a peugeot ba 10/5 to an ax15...do they share the same bellhousing or are the tranny/bellhousing 1 piece....or are the bellhousings completely different?

completely different, the input bearing retainer on the BA10/5 is very differently shaped and the case splits in half like a shell instead of having a midplate. I'd strongly suggest going with an external slave AX15 anyways, and they are only found on 94 and later vehicles.

Other stuff that changes: driveshaft lengths iirc, trans crossmember either bolts up in a different spot or is a different crossmember, and I believe the spline count on the output shaft is 23 on all ax15s while it was 21 on pukegoats? Not sure on that last part.

I'd say your dad's 5.9...

there's nothing shared between BA10 and AX-15. It's best to find a donor vehicle to rape all of the clutch components, xmember, t-case and shifters from. The BA-10 shifter will not work in an AX-15 housing either, so don't buy an AX-15 without it's shifter. You'll not find one later, trust me. I've been looking for a new retainer for like 5 years.

hmm...

so the reason im asking is because i have a peugueot 2.3l turbo diesel that i might pickup for pocket change, but it might not be a simple swap. i was thinking about trying to drop it into a renix xj or an mj. its currently mated to a ba 10/5...my hope was that the bellhousings were separate, but the bolt patterns on the tranny side were the same...then you could mate an ax15 with the peugeot bellhousing, but i figured it wouldn't be that easy. i suppose i could run a peugeot 4x4 drivetrain for a little while until it blows up...this is all a very theoretical at this point. however, since the peugeot diesel motors were bullet proof (unlike the trannys) i still might look into how to make it work. its a fully mechanical diesel so making it run would be easy...adapting it to a jeep drivetrain and adapting the motor mounts may make it tricky though. these motors aren't terribly hard to find parts from, and they were used in a similar sized truck in europe. i'll be doing some digging until i get back to see if it would even work. if so, it could be a dd project

yeah, there's nothing shared, so you're probably looking at making your own adapter plate or something.

Does the little Peugeot motor share a family bellhousing pattern?
