How many 30 ring and pinions are we breaking?

mac 'not many' gyvr

I munched mine and that's when I went to a 44. Never broke the 44's r&p though.

Just a bit of a follow-up. I'd mentioned here that the kid next door thought he might want to try OTR trucking for a living. He got through driving school, and started for Werner at the end of January. He's home this week, and says that Werner is treating him okay.

We have no room...

I threw a bunch of stuff away and took more to the 'rents for rummage sales, but we still do not have nearly all the room we need for all the stuff we got... We still have to pick up the Dyson from Target (Bec really wanted one) and when the Card comes from my uncle, I get to go buy a Grill... Where we'll put the stuff, I don't know...

Garage is out cause we know what happens there, so we may be renting a storage unit for a couple months till we can find a new place. Officially we're looking at town homes just because we have 3, counting Bec's 'Jeep', 4 vehicles, and all this stuff...

Also looks like I'm picking up a '84 AMC/Pontiac 2.5L, now to find a 909/30RH to bolt to it...

over the road is a great way to see the country on somebody else's dime. The problem is once you have a family it's very difficult to maintain that family when you're gone all the time. I'm glad Werner is treating him good.

Sounds like he sees a lot of asphalt, but yeah, it's a good way to get out. No place of his own, no family, it's the right time for him. I just hope that Werner *IS* treating him right. Young kid, just a couple of years out of high school, and just a bit too trusting. As a company driver, he won't be making a fortune, but the truck expenses will always be on Werner's dime, not his.

My back up plan to this gig was being an OTR driver...

Four years ago on earthday i cut down 22 trees in my back yard...

Werner is on my top ten worst hated companies. Whenever someone asks me who to work for they are always on the absolute "stay away from" list.

They aren't as bad as some but they are just too damn big. I was getting a tire replaced at a shop in town here and there was a Werner truck parked in the back corner. While I was getting my truck taken care of the driver of that truck walks in and says he needs to get some other work done on top of what he asked for. I could see the girl at the counter grit her teeth but she politely said "ok" and turns to me and says she will be on hold with their office for two hours trying to get a PO for the work he needs done. She said she just got off a two hour phone call with them for the original work. I said that was dumb and she gave me a look like "you have no idea" then she proceeded to tell me that every call to Werner to authorize work is a minimum hour on hold. I asked her why the driver doesn't get ahold of someone. She said the drivers call the same number and get the same treatment.

This is total BS if you ask me. No driver should ever be treated like that by their own company.

you got it in?

(thats what she said?)

Yarp, like the end of March, even drove it the 2.5hrs back to La Crosse beginning of April, no on road issues, in fact it 'tightened' up the steering so much I was able to diagnose the junk TB mount on the axle. Looks like the next time I'll ctually get to wheel it will be Black Hills, South Dakota, in June...

Driveshaft is in, Jeep is sounding much better. Still hearing the locker making noise. probably pop the cover this weekend and see if I got some springs missing or what. All was well when we put it back in.

with all jobs they suck sometimes. Although I am extremely happy that I have the job I have, they treat me well and they pay me well and I get regular time at home and sleep in my own bed every night. there are good driving jobs out there, as Ryan knows, but you have to put your time in an order to get them and this is what this kid is having to do.

they all make noise....learn to live with it, take your foot off the pedal when turning.

Interesting. He's had his tractor in for some work in the last couple of weeks, and it didn't sound like he had anywhere near that much trouble. Then again, his tractor wasn't down.

Your story does sound a lot like one of my major vendors' support. It used to be that I'd get a live body on the first call that I could communicate with, and the support engineers that came out on site had a different line to call in on for additional help. That's all changed. Now, I'm lucky to get a mouth breather on the line in less than 15 minutes, who can barely take my contact info and support ID in less than 20 minutes. And the support engineers now call in to the same number. This works oh-so-great when I've got hardware down that runs an application for the continental U.S. These days, when I start a support call, even for a production system down problem, it's going to be at least 30 minutes before I even get to someone I can communicate with. For other calls, I'll open it electronically, and figure it'll be at least 4 hours.

BTW, my personal record for getting through front line support with this vendor is under 2 minutes. Called in late on a Friday night, told her who I was, what the contract ID was, what I'd done, and what I'd tested. I literally heard her eyeballs go "<click>" as they rolled back in her skull, and she said "That's already beyond what I know, I'll get you into Level 2 support." That was 20 years ago, when they still had skilled help on the first line, and I haven't come close since.

Oh i know but its making more noise than it did before. I'm just not sure why it makes this much noise in 2wd. I'm sure I'm just worrying too much like normal!

Put 760x joints in and keep spare shafts, you'll be fine.
