Important

with all jobs they suck sometimes. Although I am extremely happy that I have the job I have, they treat me well and they pay me well and I get regular time at home and sleep in my own bed every night. there are good driving jobs out there, as Ryan knows, but you have to put your time in an order to get them and this is what this kid is having to do.
You can "put your time in" in much better companies though. A lot of people think that only the big visible companies (England, Swift, Werner and such) have training schools but it just isn't the case. My first driving job was with Watkins & Shepard out of Missoula Montana. At the time they only had 450 trucks and if I needed to talk to my boss I could walk into his office. They are out there, you just have to hunt for them.

Oh i know but its making more noise than it did before. I'm just not sure why it makes this much noise in 2wd. I'm sure I'm just worrying too much like normal!

Now I'm just spit-balling here, but you could be having issues with your tcase and, in fact, there is some power going to the front end even when in 2wd... Kinda like flat-towing a XJ, you're supposed to disconnect the drive shafts cause the tcase can 'engage' even when in neutral... Or however that works...

i dont think there is "power going to the front end," but rather, rotational resistance from the spinning drive shaft.

Put 760x joints in and keep spare shafts, you'll be fine.
no, the answer is OBVIOUSLY RCVs...

I totally agree, my first job was a small trucking company with 5 or 6 trucks and I was home every night, put my time in and look at me now. Lol

Aaron, have you tried putting the t-case in neutral and seeing if the noise is still there?

I'm pretty sure that was only with the old 231's that used a vacuum disconnect axle. The new ones have a true neutral in them.

you guys...again....are all thinking too much :D.

your front or rear locker aaron? the front will always make noise, the rear will make weird noises depending on the power on/off level going through a turn. the noise level will depend on the age and quality of the gear oil, if the gear oil gets water in it thins it out making the locker louder.

sam had aussies front and rear....the jeep sounds like its falling apart even when listening as a bystander, its the nature of the design. her ARB goes in the front next week so that will be one set of noises gone.

its 250$ locker, its gonna have drawbacks

I don't get a lot of noise out of my Aussie in the front when driving straight. Turning or stopping with one side on a slick surface, that's a different story.

I haven't really noticed the Detroit in the back when driving. I haven't driven it a lot, but never heard any noises. It pushes a lot when I'm parking it, but that's normal too. But since I really don't drive it a lot, I don't know what kind of noises it makes.

I'm not ruling that out but it sounds like a locker. Been DD'ing it for almost 3 years with a locker now, I've become accustomed to the sounds of one.

Duh! :D I know Austin would say they aren't in his budget, which is fine and I understand. I've done fine with stock shafts with my wheeling style and I think he'd be fine since i've wheeled with him a few times and know how he wheels!

I have not, I will try it on the way home.

Its a front locker Doug, It just ratchets when its going down the road I can hear it at low speed, not certain about higher speeds since I can't hear it over the loud exhaust/mud tires/no carpet/radio. The fluid went in in February when it was regeared. The locker making noises turning and reversing have been happening the entire time I've had it in there. It was installed right, I helped do it. I've been debating on an ARB or zip locker but need to save up some money for that option. I'll learn to live with it but i get freaked out about new noises, especially since I drive it to the trail.

check your tire pressure, if that doesn't fix it rotate the tires. When was the last alignment done? i dont know the condition of your unit bearings or ujoints so its hard to rule those out over the interweb

unless you broke a pin.....then all this conjecture is useless :D

if the locker is making noise going straight your in a situation where one side gear is spinning faster/slower than the other, hence why it makes noise turning. the only thing driving it at speed is tire rotation so somehow one is spinning more than the other thats why with an auto locker if you drive to/from the trail its imperative to have a full size spare, side cams spinning at different speeds makes for a whole lot of bad things, especially in the front where its load free on the road and free to spin against itself all it wants. if it were a case issue leaving it in 4 somehow it would be power on and locked all the time....youd know pretty quick

i got our used ARB for 300....100 bucks worth of parts later its ready to roll :D just keep your ear to the ground
