I hate O'Reilly Auto Parts

This is the second time they got me: I go online, see a brand/part number I want; I call around to the local stores - I ask for "Brand X, part number ####" and the guy says "yeah, we got it."

I go down to the store, and they don't have Brand X . . . they secretly cross-referenced it to O'nofrills house-brand, figuring I'd take it anyway.

I feel deceived and insulted. :flamemad:

If I ask for the part by description, sure, give me whatever you've got. If I ask for a specific brand and partnumber, tell me you have a cross-reference.

It'll be a long time before I shop at O'Reilly again. :smsoap:

I was starting to think it was store policy, after it happened twice now at two different stores. Maye it's their district or regional manager. I managed a PepBoys; I know how the DM or RM can come up with half-baked ideas...

Oriellys around here used to be "schucks" and it was one of my fav's for autoparts.. But since the sellout, i cant stand my local store.. policys and attitudes have changed.

My Kragens(schucks) in California was nice I could usually get the part I ask for.


Up here the Schucks I go to I have to bring the part number.
just last week I asked for a overflow bottle she brought a universal one out. I told her I needed the specific cherokee one she says they don't carry them. I go home get the part number online and come back. what do you know they had them.

Oh and they always have the parts I need.

We just got our first Oriellys this week in our town. We have had Advance Auto since I was a kid and store #1 is right near my house. The AA HQ is here and I prefer to shop with them. AZ sucks, they never have what I need, NAPA is my second choice.

I miss the days of the local private auto parts house, with only name brands or OE parts and experienced guys behind the counter with visible tats and handlebar moustaches using an upside-down piston for an ashtray. :tear:

No uniforms, no company policy, no inexperienced new-hires, no kids, no pushing the house brand . . . no clean-air no-smoking laws :laugh: . . .

Same, my local autismzone is actually like that, though I rarely go there anymore due to a really terrible experience at another autozone (I'll go again if my local store stops being an autozone.) The guys at the local Advance Auto are pretty good, CAP and NAPA are also fairly OK.

Maybe they noticed your spelling and are using that as an excuse?

Why not? I use a piston from an old Le Roi air compressor engine as a workbench ashtray/paperweight, and I don't see a problem. It doesn't lose balance when I put a cigar on it.

One thing I miss - 'way back when, the NAPA back home had two vending machines in the store. One for sodas, one for beers. I'm not a huge fan of beer (too weak, too nasty. Better if it's not Pasteurised...) but I thought the idea of it was awfully cool. Sometimes I'd buy one to get my dog drunk (Herbie was a lightweight.)

Visible ink, handlebars, Fu Manchus, shorts - as long as you knew what the Hell you were doing, you were good. Before my local went corporate (sold out to CarQuest, dammit!) I'd go in with a handful of part numbers and go right behind the counter to get them myself. If I was having a project that would run into a bunch of trips, I'd tell them to keep a tab going and I'd settle up when it was done (Gawd, I miss that! So much easier...)

been there, done that... the guys at autozone were always giving me shit about my damn jeep always breaking, till I helped them fix their Honda when it broke :roflmao: when I called up from New Jersey to ask them what I should do about the fact that they only gave me half the engine hoist I bought in Massachusetts, the guy answered the phone "hey Ken, how's it going? ... seriously? oh shit! f***!!!!!! we'll figure something out, you're already in NJ, right?"

Its funny when I go into my local Advance Auto, usually the first thing I hear from one of the kids working there to one of their customers is; "There is Jon, he will know the answer"

They all know me by first name, the manager tells all newbies to give me a discount, I go behind the counter and look up my own parts and pull them most of the time. They have been trying to hire me but there is not enough money in the world for me to deal with the public on a day to day basis again. I had enough of that when i worked in dealerships.

I miss the old days too. Back when you would walk into a parts store and there was a head on the counter and the counter dude was lapping the valves, well, that just adds a degree of assurance that he has working knowledge of an automotive engine.

I sometimes wonder if some of the counter dudes of today even own a car!

I have two options for auto parts in Humboldt county.
-Napa
-Kragen
(No autozone. Which turns out to be my favorite in the bay. They gave me a new tie rod because I bent the old one. zj V8)

Kragen used to be really good, nearly the same as autozone. But after the O'Reilly buyout, quality has gone down, and the have less selection than before. They do offer local price matching. But they don't even have basic stuff like u bolts. So yeah, this new kragen sucks.

Napa near me is great, it is the product of a 4x4 shop, a local automotive shop, napa, and a paint supply store all being bought out, and made into one. They have EVERYTHING. Winches, diff covers, welding supplies, paints, hardware, truck bumpers... you name it. However, depending on who you talk to, they do sometimes have a bit of an attitude.
