Hey all -
If you are parting out or otherwise scrapping an XJ, take the time to try and get the front tailpipe hanger bracket off (the one bolted to the body just in front of the rear axle) if it's still in serviceable shape - this is part number 52002403 (supersedes earlier part numbers 52101005 and 53001085), and is long-discontinued like many XJ parts.
I just had to find one for myself, apparently mine failed over the summer (the half that bolts to the body remains, but the half where the rubber bit attached (and the rubber thing too) broke off and vanished, probably during a trail run back in June. I haven't found an aftermarket version so far, but I was fortunate enough to find one NOS at a dealer in Illinois that is now winging its way to me. I plan to make some measurements and take good photos; I doubt I'll find another one of these, so if I ever break this one I want to have the information I need to recreate it myself.
My local dealer said there were only 3 left in inventory in the country - 1 at a dealer in NY, two at the one in IL (though when I got them on the phone, he only had one and it's mine now. If I had to guess, they didn't break too often on XJs/MJs that stayed on pavement, so a lot of the ones in the junkyards probably have serviceable ones if you can undo/snap off the two bolts that hold them to the body).
