Hunters/archers

I'll post up next week after I go whack this years bison. Just got my tanned hide back from last years buff about a month ago.......ITS SSWEEETTT. In fact we will be grilling buffalo rib eyes tonight.
I've had elk before, it was deffinantly gamier than venison, but still really good. How does buffalo taste?
I've shot and eaten a few elk, even a couple of older 6X6 bulls that were just coming out of rut. Elk is somewhat different than deer if that is what you generally have on the table, but I have never had one I would consider gamey. I have had some elk meat that was not prepared correctly....way over cooked. This will make the meat tough and give it an off flavor. If you have the chance to cook buffalo meat it is the same way. Don't overcook it unless you like chewing on your boots for nourishment.

Game is where it's at almost regardless. It's almost always better than beef unless it's free-range beef.

Though I've never had elk. I'd love to hunt and eat it someday.

finally back in iowa....finally to much shooting. too many hens today, but i'll take a 2 man mallard limit over work any day :)

dropped a big doe today. an hour before i was supposed to be back at my parents for turkey!

was getting down from my stand, was all packed up and unloading my rifle. i chambered my my LAST round before ejecting it and putting my rifle on a line and dropping it down the tree, when i heard deer running. 3 of them were running on the edge of the tree line, where it transitioned from hard woods to sapplings. got them to stop, picked the biggest one, had to wait for an opening, and dropped her in her right there. got my heart racing more than seeing a buck just because i wasnt ready! lol.

luckily i was right across the street. pops swooped in with the jeep and i gt cleaned up for some gobbler. ;)

5 more tags to fill. lol.

Headed up north this afternoon to finish out the firearm season. Hopefully I'll get my bow fixed and get back out for late archery.
