Goodbye 8.8

I had to stop early, because i got some poison ivy and it spread to my face, it sucks.

If im feeling up to it, ill get some budweisers, and ill take out the dana 30, what better way to celebrate the 4th of july?

Finally finished up the engine swap into my son's YJ, unfortunatly i gave away his clutch fan thinking it was my XJ's old one.

Got the fan/clutch installed, and ended up with a pin hole in lower rad hose. Took a bit to track down hoses that actually fit.. three parts stores till we hit NAPA. The bends in all the hoses from elsewhere were not correct and were pinching, restricting flow. Clean K&N, reinstall airbox. Finally got it done and son took it for a nice ride this afternoon.

He comes back and he said it has a sound when clutch pedal is depressed.. i listened and it was very faint squeek. He ended up pulling the slave to lube it up (?) and reinstalled it. He depresses clutch pedal and starts cursin.. so i go out to the driveway. He said it just "popped" and no pedal now.

I look under and fluid is running down from between bellhousing and insp plate. He missed the throwout fork when he reinstalled the slave i think... rod is now floating around at bottom of bellhousing. Hoping i can unbolt and pry back the insp plate enough to get it to drop out.

White Truck of Happiness arrived today w/ 4 KYB Gas-a-Justs and a KYB Steering Stabilizer.
(+1 for Rock Auto, ordered Thursday afternoon, arrived today via their standard shipping)

Front shocks went well given these were the original shocks (120k). Haven't tackled the stabilizer yet.
Now the rear was a debacle of magnanimous proportions.......every one of the upper bolts sheared in spite of pre-soaking w/ PB Blaster.
Managed to drill 3 of the bolts out clean enough to get a bite w/ some self tapping hw. Unfortunately 1 of the holes gave way while I was drilling it out so now it's reamed to about 1/2" in diameter. (Guess I was leaning on the drill too much.....:banghead: )
Anyway tomorrow is another day and I'll finish it up as clean as I can.
Any and all tips for dealing w/ the enlarged bolt hole will be appreciated.

Indeed, forgive my rude/crass/unwashed 1st post.

I've been lurking here for enough time that it never occurred to me that last night was my first post. I spend most of my time at NOVA Jeepers

Let me sum up.

Northern Virginia resident. I about 2yrs into Jeeping which has caused me to get back into wrenching after about a 20yr layoff except for my motorcycles. ("Better than Prozac by miles")
I have an 06 LJ which is basically stock for the moment. About 4 months ago I picked up my one-owner 2000 XJ Sport from a good friend as project/beach vehicle. Unfortnately those plans have changed as my daughter needs a daily driver while she's at school so I've turned my focus from heavy modding for a beach rig to replacing worn parts w/ upper grade OEM replacements.
Jeeping / 4 wheeling snuck into our lives one summer in a 4WD access only portion of the OBX. On a whim we rented a house in the 4x4 area about 6yrs ago and we were hooked. We managed to wear out our Rodeo so a friend I work w/ managed to pass me a glass of Jeeper's Kool-Aid and there rest shall we say is history.

Otherwise I lead a life of honest toil and caring for my family. I've heard great things about this forum and hope to be able to contribute at least as much as I receive.

Rob. :peace:

sneak a wrench with a nut & duct tape up in there

Thanks for the tip.

Ended up punching out the welded-in top nuts w/ my air chisel, fished new 8.8 hardware through the openings near the new holes, a few lock washers, and flanged bolts later........voila!

Not an original idea but clever enough for what I needed, and as far as I'm concerned much cleaner than trying to tap the rotted bolts.

Google is your friend......... :D

I replaced all the battery cables/Battery and the starter and got her back on the road. Feels good to drive it again. Need to replaced the Condenser though, I miss a/c.
