GUNS & AMMO

The fact is the 1911 revolutionized the pistol design and plain and simple, it got it right. Apparently they got it right enough that the US Marines just placed a 25.5 million dollar order for Colt 1911's to replace the M9. I'm hoping that means the Army isn't too far behind.

You really can't say much about the age of the design when it works so well. The weight is actually very beneficial in being able to fire it accurately as it helps with recoil. The 1911 also has a realtively slim profile, making it less bulky to carry than the M9. Hell, it would probably conceal better than my FNP-9.

Hell, the M2 .50cal machine is still in use and its been around since WWI as well. In fact there has been very little changed on it since the original design except for the addition of a safety and then recently a quick change barrel.

The AR that all you ***s love so much was first designed in the 50's, the AK-47 that still endures as one of the worlds most popular "assault" rifles was designed back in the 40's.

Are there newer, fancier, and even better performing weapons now? Sure there are, but these weapons continue to endure because of their rugged design and over all balance of performance and reliability.

That, and what the Mad Russian said. :D

I failed. My dad had a 1911 colt, WWII vintage, surplus sale. He didn't really like it, and I never had shot the thing. When he retired, he asked which guns he could sell, and which I wanted. He didn't like it, so I didn't want it. I wish I had it now.

Well i mean i learned to shoot on large bore revolvers. heavy and big. Going from that type of consistency and accuracy to the almost wild and flimsy feel of newer polymer guns im just not a fan. i don't like heavy kick. push is fine. but crazy kick from the same ammo im not fond of.
Oh for sure, man. I know exactly what you're talking about. I wasn't trying to make fun. I just couldn't resist. I quote that movie so much that its second nature to blurt out that stuff.

Oh, man. My dad's gun collection has diminished dramatically in the last few years being that he lost all of his overtime and is making cuts in the home. About 10 years ago he hocked grandpa's .38 Police Special from the early 70's. If he still had all his guns and gave me the option to take my pick, I'd just say "Yes."

Oh I didn't take it bad at all. I think that movie is pretty good anyway, was just clarifying my statement.

I love my polymer frame guns don't get me wrong but a nice 1911 with a smaller frame will eventually be my winter carry gun.

My 1911 was a WWII Army service pistol... still goes bang and stays on target. You can hardly even tell that there are lands in the barrel because its so shot out! Other than a couple problems I've have with ammunition, I know I can count on it.

Well, went and picked up the 1911 over my lunch break. Not much to say about it other than I like the way it fits my hand. Going to go kill some targets with it this weekend. :D

I'm considering selling off a bunch of my stuff to fund a new weapon. Not sure if I want to buy another pistol or start building my AR finally. More than likely start building the AR. I think it's time.

I'm tempted to sell of my FNP-9 and get a 1911 instead. The FNP-9 hasn't given me any issues or anything, I just want a 1911. I guess I could just wait a bit longer so I can afford to have them both.

Bought mine online. Very simple..paid a deposit and it was shipped to the broker where I got my background check and paid the balance. Done and done

Anyone buy their firearms online?
Any problems?

Reply via PM if you prefer.

Bought my .17HMR through www.budsgunshop.com. It was simple, paid them, set up the FFL transfer through a preferred dealer close to here and picked it up when it got there. Simple as that.

Frank a friend of mine has used stop drop and shop a few times for transfers with no issues. 20 bucks per gun. My coworkers and I have used Red Bear Gun Brokers a few times with no issues. 20 dollar fee as well. What are you buying?
