Emergency kit!

Hi! As my first post I wanted to ask what do you carry for your emergency kit? I already have a cb radio, highlight jack tow strap and fire extinguisher. I going to keep 2-3 gallons of water, a blanket and some sort of food. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a simple first aid kit, and I keep a hoodie in all my vehicles. As long as my core and head stay warm I can survive in shorts, at least in California winters.

You should look into getting your amateur licence and a 2m radio.

I have a light on a headband, really handy when setting up the tent after dark.

Amateur license is ham.

If I get a chance I will take a picture of my kit. I found a tote that will gracefully hold a gallon jug of coolant, a gallon jug of water and a bunch of other essentials. That is in addition to the first aid kit and the tool kit.

Off hand I carry a CB, the radio ben posted above, 1st aid kit, paracord, 2 heat/space blankets, glow sticks (great for rave parties around the campfire too!), tons of water, fire extinguisher, two strap, high lift, small tarp (shade/shelter), moto style goggles etc. Oh yea, Coors light. Never know what you might encounter out in the deserts

As promised, pics of my kit.

Note that this is primarily the liquids. I think these pose the greatest challenge. Tools and First Aid Kit are stashed throughout the Jeep, under seats for the most part. In one sense they count as a kit, but you can't just grab one thing and have the whole thing. This is the only thing that is a consolidation.

What held me up most of all was getting this picture:

I didn't want to send anyone on a wild goose hunt looking for something that couldn't be found. I bought the one in my XJ last fall at Walmart, but I could not find them anymore at my local Walmart. I did find one today at a different Walmart. They can probably be found in other stores as well. Walmart identifies the tote as a "Stacker Tote 007314948359" and retails it for $6.47 + tax.

I am happy with how it fits the coolant and the jug of water. Keeping those out of trouble in the event one of them springs a leak is a priority in my mind. Also note that I don't carry things that are likely to puncture those jugs in this tote and I also put gloves and other absorbent items into Ziplocs just in case something does leak.

i think 18" is the length and 13.25" is the height.

I think you are right.

I have to lay my oil (5qt) and water bottles on their side to fit in my tubs. I have 2 tubs, one for spare parts and fluids, one for new parts and supplies. Of course they are all mixed up now. I should bag the stuff I don't want to get oily/wet.

Yep.

Won't fit a 5 qt oil jug. At least not standing up.
